This Weekend in Worship

Apparently not satisfied by Jesus’ feeding of thousands, some who were there press him for a sign of his power; perhaps it is daily manna they want. As always in John’s gospel when people want a sign, Jesus offers himself. He is the bread come from heaven to give life to the world. He calls us to come to him and believe in him, and through that relationship to know the one who sent him.

Civic Life & Faith Discussions

Sundays

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is developing a social statement on civic life and faith, the relationship of church and state, and related matters, as called for by the 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly.

To fully engage in this process, join Pastor Carlson in a six-week series on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 am in St. Michael’s Hall through August 18. We will walk through the main sections of the draft social statement utilizing a study guide, videos, and small group dialogue. Click here for more information and to download a copy of the draft social statement.

Summer Sprouts

Wednesdays

Faith Lutheran Children and Family Ministries invites parents and children (6 and under) to Summer Sprouts on Wednesdays through August 14 from 9:30 - 11:00 am on the church playground. This is a time of fellowship and connection for the grown-ups and play for the kids. Older siblings are welcome but will be asked to stay off the playground. There will be stories, snacks (coffee for the adults), art, and play. Bring your friends! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Some Seeds of Faith teachers might even make some guest appearances throughout the summer! Rain location will be Room 106 near the preschool. Call, text, or email Pastor Megan with any questions (641.831.9499 or megan@faithlc.org).

ELCA World Hunger

50 Years

For 50 years, Lutherans have joined together through ELCA World Hunger to address the root causes of hunger and poverty worldwide. In August, Faith Lutheran will commemorate this anniversary by encouraging every household to give $50 or more to ELCA World Hunger. Envelopes and brochures are available in the Commons. Click here for more information and giving opportunities. Part of our church’s long tradition of meeting human needs, ELCA World Hunger testifies to our hope for and commitment to God’s promise of a time when we will hunger and thirst no more.

Get Lost! Women's Camping Retreat

October 4 - 6

Are you interested in joining other women of Faith for a weekend disconnecting from technology, retreating from life out in God’s beautiful creation? We will “camp” in rustic cabins, have bonfires, go canoeing, spend time relaxing, eating delicious food, and growing in our faith through discussing Sarah Bessey’s newest book, Field Notes for the Wilderness: Practices for an Evolving Faith (no need to read it all before the retreat!). Pastor Megan will lead the group in devotions, discussion, and worship during our retreat to the wilderness. Cost will be approximately $200-250 and will include lodging, food, materials, and some surprise swag. We need to know if you are interested so we can continue our planning! Email Pastor Megan (megan@faithlc.org) or Gail Marske (gailmarske@gmail.com) with questions or if you are interested in joining in the fun email one of them by August 5

Member Directory Order

If you’d like to order the 2022 printed directory, please email office@faithlc.org by August 15. Cost is $20, made payable to Faith Lutheran Church. Please note that this directory will not include updated photos, names, or contact information from the past two years. The online member directory (Realm) provides the most accurate information about the Faith community. Contact Erik Ullestad in the office or visit faithlc.org/realm for more information.

The Altar Guild is a group of people who prepare communion elements, adjust paraments, and light candles near the altar prior to worship services. New members are needed and welcome!
