VBS Student Volunteer Sign-up

Students -

Here's the spot for you to sign up for this year's Vacation Bible School at SJA. College students and recent HS graduates should use the adult sign-up form.

We'll have a volunteers' meeting from 7-8 p.m. Monday, June 13th in the Sr. Carol Center Emmaus Fellowship Hall. All volunteers must attend.

If you're experienced with the program - proceed with the Register Now link. If you need more info about the jobs available, please read the descriptions below.

How can you help?

Volunteering gives you an opportunity to make a difference in the faith lives children in the program while you give back to you’re your parish community and earn service hours you may need.

If you are interested in being an assistant, this is what you must do:
Read the job descriptions below – choose jobs that you will perform with excitement and enthusiasm!Complete the application ONLINE. Have your parent sign the “Permission Signature” portion of the form.Have a teacher or other adult sign (NOT your parent) the “Recommendation Signature” portion of the form.Return the completed and signed application to the RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICE by May 31th.

There is a mandatory VBS Volunteer Meeting JUNE 13 at 7-8 p.m. in the FYC Emmaus Fellowship Hall.

Available jobs will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis, so the sooner you submit your application, the better! Volunteer sign-up will close once we reach the number of volunteers we need. If you wait to turn in your application, you may be too late to get a VBS assignment. Also, the first volunteers that we choose are those who can work ALL FIVE DAYS. After that, we will fill the remaining jobs with students who can work fewer days. Please look at your family’s schedule for VBS week, so you can commit as much time as you are able.

All student volunteers will be assigned to one of the areas below. Keep in mind that this program takes many able hands, so everyone’s job is important.

Please look over these descriptions carefully and prayerfully and decide where God can use your talents the most! You may apply for as many jobs as you wish.

SING & PLAY ASSISTANT: (in this area, the whole VBS group meets, prays, and sings songs.) Teach song motions and help the adults lead VBS children in singing new songs. This job requires a lot of visual energy and excitement.

FINALE PRODUCER/PERFORMER: This is a new job for teams of capable high schoolers. Each day, the wrap-up finale production will have a unique team of producers. With guidance, they'll be responsible for getting together the items for one day's skit and then planning and executing the skit on a designated day the week of VBS. Teams should be comprised of 3-4 students who are confident they can work together creatively to complete a fun and engaging 5-10 minute presentation. (The materials have already been developed.)

ACTOR/ASSISTANT: (in this area, each grade group watches skits to teach the Bible point of the day) Act in short skits; set up scenery and props. Requires willingness to speak and act in front of groups of children. Also involves rehearsal time with adult leader 1 to 2 weeks before VBS.

GAMES ASSISTANT: (children play games related to each day’s Bible lesson) Help run games; fill water bottles for classes coming into games; set up/clean up of equipment.

DRIVE-IN ASSISTANT: (children watch a short video, then work on Bible lessons in workbooks). Set up before each group arrives; pass out materials; answer individual questions; clean up materials.

IMAGINATION STATION ASSISTANT: (children make crafts related to the Bible point) Set up before each group arrives; pass out materials; answer individual questions; clean up materials; restock any materials the teacher needs.

CREW LEADER: Some high-school-age students will be assigned the task of crew leader. These students must have either experience at SJA’s VBS or must have appropriate recommendations for these leadership positions. (It’s a great addition to any college app.)

CREW ASSISTANT: Travel around with an assigned grade crew to the areas listed above; help with individual children; answer questions; help the children behave and listen.

SNACKS: Help with set up and preparing the snack station.

TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT: Helping with the AV operation and settingup equip. during the program.

DECORATION COMMITTEE: Help make decorations (2-3 weeks prior to VBS) and/or help decorate before VBS. This position does not require actual participation in VBS week itself. (This is an excellent job for students who know they will not be available for VBS week, or who do not necessarily want to work with the VBS children, but still want to earn service hours.)

Thank you for your help!
