Because restrictions required that we change to an online-only ticketing system to accommodate social distancing and contact tracing, we are currently unable to accept CineBucks for ticket purchases, but we will happily take them at our concession counter.

We appreciate your patience as we work towards a way to resume the use of CineBucks for ticket purchases. Rest assured that they do not have an expiration date and that we will be accepting them again once we are able to figure out the many details involved.
We truly thought by now we'd be long past this crisis and normalcy would have been restored. Unfortunately, we all now know the sad truth as new variants have sent many people back to a life of renewed caution and we still need you now, as much as we did a year ago. Movie theater attendance – nationwide – is still down 65%. Those of you who have reestablished your relationship with the movies can likely attest to seeing lower attendance at your screenings. And while we do understand the apprehension some of you have had about returning to indoor events, we worry about how long Salem Cinema can tread water with such a significant fluctuation in attendance.
You can help us to bridge the gap by signing up for or continuing to support our sustaining monthly campaign here. This sustaining fund was established in the winter of 2020 to help us cover ongoing core expenses like staff wages, rent and necessities like insurance and utilities.
Your support will help us rebound after our devastating closure so we can continue to bring you the incredible film programming we're known for.

We all want the arts venues and local businesses that mean so much to us to remain, despite the challenges we collectively face. Thank you for helping Salem Cinema survive.
Statewide mask mandates are still in place. MASKS OR FACE COVERINGS REQUIRED IN OUR BUILDING AT ALL TIMES EXCEPT WHEN ACTIVELY EATING OR DRINKING WHILE SAFELY SEATED IN YOUR AUDITORIUM.

PLEASE HAVE YOUR MASK ON CORRECTLY BEFORE ENTERING SALEM CINEMA!

YOUR COOPERATION ALLOWS US TO REMAIN OPEN.

Ticket sales will continue to be online as we will still plan to keep a gap seat between parties in all auditoriums -- this social-distancing feature is automated by our ticketing system. Of course, our enhanced cleaning procedures will remain in place and hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the building. See you at the movies!
OPENING FRIDAY ON OUR BIG SCREEN!
A vibrant and endearing adaptation, CYRANO is pure magic, beautifully blending music, poetry and romance!

Oscar Nominee!
Best Costume Design
"Dinklage gives you his appeal and his sense of self-loathing. It's both the single most sorrowful and the sexiest take on Cyrano you've ever seen." - David Fear, Rolling Stone

BAFTA Awards Nominee! Outstanding British Film of the Year, Best Costume Design, Best Make Up & Hair, Best Production Design
Critics Choice Award Nominee! Best Actor - Peter Dinklage
Hollywood Critics Association Nominee! Best Actor - Peter Dinklage, Best Comedy/Musical Film, Best Original Song

Award-winning director Joe Wright (DARKEST HOUR, ATONEMENT, PRIDE & PREJUDICE) both charms and surprises with his CYRANO, re-imagining the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle with a symphony of emotions, music, romance and beauty. A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac (played by Peter Dinklage) dazzles, whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of his devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), he has yet to declare his feelings for her – and Roxanne has fallen in love – at first sight – with Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.). Flush with lavish set designs and exuberant costumes, this witty, humorous and poignant fairy tale of otherwordliness is an absolute crowd-pleaser that shines brightly in this bleak world.

AFFAIRS OF THE ART
UK/Canada. Directed by Joanna Quinn, Les Mills. (16 mins.) contains nudity, language and adult themes

Director Joanna Quinn and producer/screenwriter Les Mills continue the series of beloved, hilarious and award-winning animated UK films starring Beryl, a 59-year-old factory worker who’s obsessed with drawing and determined to become a hyper-futurist artiste. Affairs of the Art features Quinn’s signature hand-drawn animation with attitude and Mills’ raucously humorous scenarios, in an endearing romp through one family’s eccentric addictions.
BESTIA
Chile. Directed by Hugo Covarrubias. (15 mins.) contains disturbing imagery, animal abuse, bestiality and violence

Inspired by real events, Bestia enters the life of a secret police agent in the military dictatorship in Chile. The relationship with her dog, her body, her fears and frustrations, reveal a macabre fracture in her mind and a country.
BOXBALLET
Russia. Directed by Anton Dyakov. (15 mins.)

One day, a delicate ballerina named Olya meets the rough, surly boxer Evgeny. The contrast between their worlds and their philosophies is so sharp that even the possibility of these two characters crossing paths seems incredible.
ROBIN ROBIN
UK. Directed by Daniel Ojari, Michael Please. (32 mins.)

Robin Robin is the tale of a small bird with a very big heart. After a shaky nativity of her own – her unhatched egg falls out of the nest and into a rubbish dumpster – she comes out of her shell, in more ways than one, and is adopted by a loving family of mice burglars. Neither fully bird, nor fully mouse, can Robin discover, and learn to love, who she really is, delighting her family and earning her wings in the process?
THE WINDSHIELD WIPER
Spain. Directed by Alberto Mielgo. (14 mins.) contains nudity, sex and adult themes

Inside a cafe while smoking a whole pack of cigarettes, a man poses an ambitious question: What is Love? A collection of vignettes and situations will lead the man to the desired conclusion.

BAFTA Awards Nominee! Best Film Not In The English Language, Best Leading Actress - Renate Reinsve
Critics Choice Award Nominee! Best Foreign Language Film
Gotham Awards Nominee! Best International Feature
Fabulously inventive, fresh and fun, Director Joachim Trier's THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD chronicles four years in the life of Julie. This wistful, magnificent slice of cinema examines one woman’s quest for love and meaning in the modern world. Fluidly told in twelve chapters, the film features a breakout performance by Cannes Best Actress winner Renate Reinsve as she explores new professional avenues and embarks on relationships with two very different men (Anders Danielsen Lie and Herbert Nordrum) in her search for happiness and identity. With its whimsical antics and darkly comic tone, this wickedly funny, emotionally resonant story is a knockout you don't want to miss – a phenomenal statement on life, love, and growing into yourself.

A deeply philosophical journey with stunning imagery, THE VELVET QUEEN is a one of the most breathtaking documentaries of this or any year.
"Besides the stunning, stirring camerawork, The Velvet Queen one-ups other adventure docs with its meditative quality." - Randy Myers, San Jose Mercury News

Pondering humankind's place in the world, this exquisite documentary is a calming and meditative experience. In the heart of the Tibetan highlands, multi-award-winning nature photographer Vincent Munier guides writer Sylvain Tesson on his quest to document the infamously elusive snow leopard. Munier introduces Tesson to the subtle art of waiting from a blind spot, tracking animals and finding the patience to catch sight of the beautiful cats. Through their spellbinding journey amongst the magnificent creatures and glorious landscapes they encounter along the way, the film focuses less on the celebration of intrepid man capturing and controlling the magic of nature and more on the ways that nature observes us with a careful and watchful eye. Magnificently photographed, THE VELVET QUEEN sublimely stands alone as a thrilling peek into this very specific place on the planet at this very specific time in our global history.

A meditative, intimate and delicate road movie, DRIVE MY CAR is an emotionally unsparing drama about the communion between people. Two years after his wife's unexpected death, Yusuke Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima), a renowned stage actor and director, receives an offer to direct a production of Uncle Vanya at a theater festival in Hiroshima. There, he meets Misaki Watari (Toko Miura), a brooding young woman assigned by the festival to chauffeur him in his beloved red Saab 900. As the production's premiere approaches, tensions mount amongst the cast and crew, not least between Yusuke and the handsome TV star who shares an unwelcome connection to his late wife. Forced to confront painful truths raised from his past, Yusuke begins – with the help of his driver – to face the haunting mysteries his wife left behind. Director Ryusuke Hamaguchi has crafted a stirring rumination on love, on the barriers we build around us and on the things that we remain tethered to after loss. It is a quiet and exhilarating masterpiece anchored by exquisite performances.
