Annual Meeting & Board Election Results

Hafa Adai Catherine,

The time for pumpkin spice anything has arrived! Although I am not a huge fan of pumpkin spice in my coffee, I do enjoy discovering fun pumpkin desserts, which are never in short supply this time of year. What are your favorite fall things?

For many in business, this season heralds a time of planning, budgeting, and forecasting. We have been through a number of challenges as a community and in speaking to many of our members, more than a few companies continue to be wary of what 2024 has in store for our island and their respective businesses. We had some good news from GEDA CEO and Administrator, Melanie Mendiola, who spoke at our membership meeting last week. She confirmed that LEAP 2 is on the horizon. GEDA is waiting on instructions on the timing for the executive order from the Governor. View Ms. Mendiola's presentation here.

Nominating Committee Chairman, Ed Untalan, announced at last week's meeting that the Nominating Committee is seeking candidates from among the membership to run for the Chamber Board. There will be eight (8) seats available in 2024, six (6) seats are three-year voting seats and two (2) seats are one-year, non-voting seats. Members interested in learning more about Chamber Board duties and service are encouraged to scroll down this message for details.

As we head into the weekend, the National Weather Service has alerted us of some possible bad weather. The Chamber has kept up the emergency preparedness page on our website. Feel free to peruse the space and use the information to assist your business or your home front in case inclement weather veers in our direction.

It's Red Ribbon Month and we have an opportunity to speak to school-aged children and youth about the dangers of drug use. If you are interested in joining the Chamber and other organizations in school outreach events that are scheduled each day of the month, please reach out and let us know!

October signifies that we are rapidly heading to the end of the year. With everything we have gone through in recent months, I am not surprised at how this year flew by. We do, however, have so much more to do to get where we need to be. Happy to be on the recovery train with you!

Onward together,

Catherine Castro

President

Toy Collection

Friday, October 13th

Your Chamber Team will be at the Guam Premier Outlets on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m. to collect new and unwrapped toys in support of this year's Toys for Tots campaign. It is through the community's generous giving that children will be able to receive a toy this Christmas that otherwise would not have one. Please spread the word and if you happen to be in the area, stop by and say "Hafa Adai" - it will be great to see you there!

For a real-world perspective on rising retail crime and its impact on small businesses, we spoke with a small-batch coffee roaster in San Francisco serving the community since 1965. Click here to read more.
