Ursuline Art Installation at Art in Bloom

Art in Bloom at the New Orleans Museum of Art is now open, and we are so excited for you to see the beautiful art installation created by our amazing students. The artworks will be on display through today, Sunday, March 26th.

Installation description

"A glimpse into artist, naturalist, and scientist Emile-Allain Séguy's desk"

E.A. Séguy, was a French designer during the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements of the 1920s. Séguy created both naturalistic paintings of tropical insects, as well as patterns and textiles inspired by the natural world.

Artworks, artifacts, and specimens that are scattered about the table have been meticulously created by art students at Ursuline Academy. Two-dimensional reproductions of his work have been created by NAHS students, and the three-dimensional ceramic insects were sculpted by 7th Grade artists.

Academy Choir Earns Superior Ratings at LMEA Festival

This week, our Academy Choir performed at the LMEA District Large Ensemble Festival at UNO. They earned a Sweepstakes, which reflects a Superior in both categories: Performance and Sight Reading. They also received high praise from notable choral professionals. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication to making music!

Bach Contest

On Saturday, March 18, Ursuline hosted our annual Bach Contest, which was founded in 1960 by Sr. Elizabeth Marie Landry, OSU. T

The contest originally began with a piano contest only. Alumna, high school music teacher, and former contestant, Helen Honoree Myers '84, brought the competition back to the Academy and has directed it ever since. It was Mrs. Myers who added strings to the competition. The competition, which is open to students in the greater New Orleans area, continues to serve as a tribute to Sr. Elizabeth Marie and her many contributions.

Thank you to the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra for sponsoring the Strings Sr. Elizabeth Landry, O.S.U. Grand Prize Winner and to Hall Piano for sponsoring the Piano Sr. Elizabeth Landry, O.S.U. Grand Prize Winner.

We would also like to recognize and congratulate our Ursuline winners (see a full list of all winners here).
