INSTE Anniversary & Graduation |

The INSTE graduating class of 2021-2022 consists of only a handful of students who are scattered between California, Iowa, and Tennessee. We will therefore combine the 2022 graduation with the 2023 graduation which we will celebrate at the Living Word Open Bible Church in Cooper City, Florida in August 2023.
INSTE turns 40 years old in 2022. In order to provide a better venue to celebrate this monumental occasion we are postponing our celebration until June of 2023. We will be celebrating INSTE’s 40th birthday at the National Open Bible Convention in (Frisco) Dallas, Texas at the Frisco Dallas Texas at Embassy Suites- June 13-15, 2023.

In 2018 Coastal Church in Vancouver, British Columbia began offering a small group Certificate Program course for their members who wanted to go deeper into God's Word. Today, 106 people have taken INSTE through Coastal Church where they have equipped 12 facilitators to lead other groups. We interviewed Terry and Charlotte Ash, a couple who lead some of those groups. |

Terry grew up in Saskatchewan and was brought to faith by his mom at a young age. He moved to Vancouver at age 26 where he searched for a church to attend. Terry found Coastal Church through a co-worker, and it was an immediate fit. He knew this was where God was leading him.
Charlotte grew up in mainland China and came to faith as an adult while working in Singapore and attended a church there. Once she immigrated to Canada, Vancouver specifically, she too found Coastal Church through a friend and found a fit.
Charlotte and Terry met at Coastal Church at a Life Group dessert night; an event set up to help those searching for a Life Group find placement. Charlotte was a leader at the table Terry sat down at, it was not long before they were dating and would come to be married; this began their life together but also, their partnership in ministry; both would come to serve in many areas of church and attend bible school together.

Terry creció en Saskatchewan y su madre lo llevó a la fe a una edad temprana. Se mudó a Vancouver a los 26 años, donde buscó una iglesia a la que asistir. Terry encontró Coastal Church a través de un compañero de trabajo, y fue un ajuste inmediato. Sabía que allí era donde Dios lo estaba guiando.

We discovered INSTE in 2019. We were both excited at the thought of going deeper with God; its amazing to be on a faith walk with Him. The experience is deepened even more when you begin to understand the framework of faith, the Church, its origins and where the believer fits into Gods story or "the upper and lower story” as our Pastors Dave & Cheryl Koop often state.
INSTE teaches you to mine for the truths of the faith you hold and focus on your relationship with Jesus and Gods call on your life, not just to attend Church. When Charlotte and I decided to take the course, Pastor Karen Kepkay challenged us to lead it as well. She reminded us that we would not need to know all the answers but help facilitate and guide the group, much like a Life group. One of INSTE’s principles for its leaders is to be a "guide on the side” not “the sage on the stage." Coastal Church’s Pastors Karen Kepkay and Jacqui Bishop are always in the background to support with answers or coaching when needed.
Like a life group, Charlotte and I grew really close to our first cohort of students. We studied together, prayed together, shared in one another’s burdens, and saw many answers to prayer from God. One of the principles in Discipleship one is called “one-anothering," INSTE helps you learn about this precept and being in a committed group allows for plenty of opportunity to practice [and live it out]. We get together for social events, help members move house, attend funerals in some cases to support members who have lost someone, celebrate wins, work on scheduling group sessions when a member has a commitment challenge. The cohort truly becomes a faith family, and that is what Church is supposed to look like.

Descubrimos INSTE en 2019. Ambos estábamos entusiasmados con la idea de profundizar con Dios; es increíble estar en un caminar de fe con Él. As a family, Charlotte and I had to look and prayed about our time commitments, as engaging in life this way becomes full. There is no question that you sacrifice other activities so you can focus on the course work and prepare for the weekly meeting, but the return on investment is high and we are where the Lord wants us in this season.
Charlotte and I are passionate about marriage and partnership in marriage. We bring that focus to our INSTE group. We each have different skillsets and have worked through a rhythm as co-leaders. Charlotte often runs the Zoom meeting set up and virtual rooms for spiritual Growth partner interface as well as ques the praise and worship songs, and manages some of the leader administration in Moodle. Terry looks at and preps the questions for the evening and writes the group report at nights end and takes attendances. Both engage the group in discussions surrounding the previous weeks work.
When the opportunity came to lead another group, it was the relationships and the opportunity to again go deeper that drew Charlotte and I to say, Yes. Going through the program helps to deepen your faith but further assists in equipping you and the students for Kingdom work and identifying what authentic living in faith family can and should look like.

Como familia, Charlotte y yo tuvimos que mirar y orar por nuestros compromisos de tiempo, ya que participar en la vida de esta manera se vuelve pleno. No hay duda de que sacrifica otras actividades para poder concentrarse en el trabajo del curso y prepararse para la reunión semanal, pero el retorno de la inversión es alto y estamos donde el Señor nos quiere en esta temporada.
Charlotte y yo somos apasionados por el matrimonio y la sociedad en el matrimonio. Traemos ese enfoque a nuestro grupo INSTE. Cada uno de nosotros tiene diferentes conjuntos de habilidades y hemos trabajado a través de un ritmo como co-líderes. With the event of COVID, everyone had to pivot and reimagine how groups would be done, although not as personal, Zoom has been a great tool in allowing cohorts to meet and discuss the study material. In one way approaching INSTE through a hybrid approach has allowed more students to participate who normally would live too far away to attend in person.
We are grateful to be part of the INSTE program and would happily recommend it to believers that are looking to deepen their understanding and walk with God.

Con el evento de COVID, todos tuvieron que pivotar y volver a imaginar cómo se harían los grupos, aunque no tan personal, Zoom ha sido una gran herramienta para permitir que las cohortes se reúnan y discutan el material de estudio. This certificate program is structured around four crucial discipleship habits: personal devotions, Bible study skills, relationships, and ministry. This program focuses on the character development of the disciple. Intensive discipleship (being) plus foundational Bible and theological input (knowing) lead to ministry (doing). Each believer has gifts, talents and skills that are to be used in the Kingdom of God. Through this program, maturing disciples find their places in the Body of Christ, in which they can serve the Lord with joy and effectiveness. The base price for a Level 1 course is $90. |

This option gives the student a complete online experience with online book and exams. All course material is studied and completed online in a digital format. We have implemented the pedagogical and didactic tools offered by modern distance education so that you will have a better online learning experience. Students still meet in groups online once a week to grow relationships with fellow believers and apply the information learned throughout the week. The base price for a Digital Course is $90. |

Students must have completed their Certificate in Christian Ministry in order to be fully enrolled in this program. Visiting students can study up to three of these subjects without having completed Level 1 subjects previously. The focus of this program is leadership development.
