One of the most recurrent controversial topics in today’s discourse is AI and its perils, promises, and its potential in a growing number of fields, from sales to security. The panel, moderated by our own experts in AI, Drs. Raj Bhatnagar (Professor, Computer Science) and Kelly Cohen (Professor, Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics), explores these perils and promises. We are excited to feature on this panel four outstanding UC Alumni who are leading AI efforts at Google, Nike, Thales, and the United States White House.

Panelists:
Divya Sardana, Lead AI / Machine Learning Engineer, Nike
Computer Science, PhD
University of Cincinnati, 2017

A Year of Solving Problems that Matter
On September 23, 2022, the much-anticipated Digital Futures Interdisciplinary Research Facility (“DF”) celebrated its grand opening. Dr. Diego Cuadros (A&S Geography & DF Digital Epidemiology Lab) noted that “DF is more than just labs and tech. It's a lively town square. On any given day, you might find a workshop on artificial intelligence, a discussion on climate change, or an expert from halfway across the globe sharing insights.” Reflecting on his first year at Digital Futures, Alejandro Lozano Robledo (DAAP Design & DF Future Mobility Design Lab) explains, “Being selected to establish a research lab at DF has been amazing. This has exposed me to a multitude of new paths and applications of my work that I wouldn’t have considered otherwise.”

Check out the Digital Futures Creative Media Studios!
In the new Creative Media Studios, you can record, edit, and even broadcast video and audio from a cozy studio space. There are two studio setups, one for video production and one for audio and podcast production. In both studios, there is recording and editing equipment, and the video production studio is also equipped with broadcasting infrastructure. The studios are hosted by the Center for Simulations & Virtual Environments Research (UCSIM), which has a multidisciplinary approach that combines subject matter expertise from the university’s scientific community with UCSIM’s technical expertise to create applications that unleash the potential for scientific discovery, innovation, and new learning capabilities with immersive technologies. The first lab to take advantage of this new facility is the Cryptoeconomics Lab, who has just started a podcast, which is slated to have its first episode released in the coming weeks.
