Our monthly Walk-n-Talk hike April 11 took us through San Pasqual Valley to Raptor Ridge.

We saw many wildflowers and were able to identify them using the iNaturalist app.

Living Coast Discovery Center in Chula Vista is an outstanding partner in conservation. We had a great time April 2 participating in the Center’s Animals on the Bay event.

Conservation: Lagoon Cleanup with Brookfield Properties

Good on ya, Brookfield Properties! We appreciate your good vibes and good work April 21 in hauling 61 pounds of debris away from the San Dieguito Lagoon trail.

Conservation: Busy Hands at Sword Way Trailhead

We joined forces with the San Diego Zoo Conservation Corps and WILDCOAST April 8 to plant native plants and spread mulch at the Sword Way Trailhead in Carmel Valley. Thanks so much for the help!

New CAC Trail Committee Chair

Matthew Cunningham is the new Chair of the Trails Committee, part of the Citizen Advisory Committee. He is a retired English teacher and cross country coach from La Costa Canyon High School. Since an early age when his father took him backpacking he has been passionate about using and preserving the wilderness left on the planet. He and his wife, Judy Seid, backpack, mountain bike and hike regularly. So do his five adult children. He thinks the San Dieguito River Park is the crown jewel of Southern California's parks. He would like to help preserve, expand and educate people about the SDRP's Coast to Crest Trail. Nature and wilderness are essential to his mental health and joy. He wants to preserve the wilderness left to help others find the same joy and connection as he does. He looks forward to being of service.

Monthly Trail Maintenance

Work with rangers to improve the trails and restore native habitats on the second Sunday of every month. Tools, training and work gloves provided! Please bring drinking water, sun protection and wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes.

Adobe Home Tours as Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead

The 10th North County Adobe Home Tour on March 26 included a stop at Sikes Adobe. Friends of Sikes Adobe docents worked nonstop providing tours and information to ticket-holders. Tour docents noted that many visitors were in awe of the historic house, most often commenting, "We never knew this place existed."

The parking lot and grounds were exceedingly busy. SDRP staff, directed by Leana and Jess, provided assistance with many details needed for guest services. The Escondido History Center is grateful for this partnership. Nearly 500 tickets were sold with the proceeds benefitting the Escondido History Center.

California Native Plants Society Native Garden Tours

Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead was a featured location April 1 during the California Native Plant Society San Diego’s Native Garden Tours. More than 400 people turned out to tour our pollinator garden and native plant gardens.

Wall Clock Donated to Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead

A Manross, Prichard & Co. Ogee style wall clock was recently donated to the Sikes Historic Farmstead. This generous gift was from Dave Morehead and Rob Stevanato. The clock had been in the private collection of Rob’s father, who was an avid collector of antique and vintage clocks.
