THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT

State Department diplomat and J-School alumna visits students

Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Elizabeth Trudeau, j’91, visited students at the J-School last week and talked about press freedom and restrictions. Trudeau visited broadcasting reporting classes Jan. 26 and was interviewed by students in the studio and by Kansas Alumni magazine. “The way you advance policy is really through storytelling. The way you make people care about issues is making them understand it in their heart; make it relate to them. And so what we see happening a lot with marginalized communities is -- us in our job at the State Department -- is making sure that people hear those stories and they hear the truth about those stories,” Trudeau said.
