The college application season is in full swing and it's really important that students begin taking ownership of their process.

Next steps:

Complete necessary SCOIR surveys or other requested information from teachers/counselor
Aim to complete the first draft of college writing by October 11
Schedule a meeting with me to check-in

Adding Colleges: Students are still able to add colleges to Scoir but it will require counselor approval.

Late Recommendation Requests: The College rec request deadline has passed. If you need to request late/additional recommendations, please check-in with me asap. Please note that teachers are also at liberty to deny your request.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT DATE & '24-'25 FAFSA

The 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid FAFSA and CA Dream Act Application become available in December. All domestic or other eligible students applying for need-based aid should complete these applications for every school to which they are applying.

December 5 at 6 p.m.: Virtual College Financial Aid Night for Seniors & Families

A representative from the University of San Francisco's Financial Aid Office will join us to discuss the College Financial Aid Process and Updates to the new FAFSA. The session will be recorded for any students and families who cannot attend.

Remaining College Workshops

There are two remaining college application workshops after school in the library.

THE UC APPLICATION

WED, October 4, 1:45 - 2:30p.m.

THE CSU APPLICATION

WED, October 18, 1:45 - 2:30p.m.

We highly recommend you attend if you cannot make the Optional College Workday.

Wednesday, October 11 is an optional College application workday for seniors. There are no classes that day due to PSAT testing. All seniors are highly encouraged to attend. Check-in is at 8:35 a.m. (Theater) and the day will end at 11:35 a.m.

Students who choose to attend can:

Attend CSU, UC, and Common Application Workshops
Sit in a workroom to get assistance with applications
Meet with an English teacher to review College Essays

Other Important Reminders

Cal State Apply Opens October 1: The CSU application for Fall 2024 opens on October 1st. The Riordan CSU application guide will be available online by Wednesday, October 4th.

Submitting a Portfolio/Auditions: If you're applying to a program that requires a portfolio or audition, the deadlines are typically early. Please check the program requirements and begin working on those materials.

Application Guides: We've created Riordan-specific application guides to help students in completing the most frequently used college applications (requires google slides).
