Bullies Don't Run In Our PACK!

FMS Anti-Bullying Campaign

WHAT YOU CAN DO IF YOU WITNESS BULLYING

• Refuse to join in.  It can be very easy to follow the crowd and "go along" with the bullying scenario.  Instead, stay quiet.  Bullies are looking for attention so don't give it to them! 

• Walk away.  Spectators can gather quickly, sometimes just out of curiosity.  Walk away and send a quiet message that you do not approve of what is happening.

• Distract the bully.  Tell a joke or story.  Suggest something else like playing basketball, getting to class, or getting something to drink/eat.

• Report any bullying you see.  Students are often worried about being a "snitch".  Utilize different methods of reporting:  tell a teacher or staff member; send Mr. Walters or Mr. Linnehan an email; use Safe-2-Tell 1-877-542-7233.

• Speak out.  This can be difficult.  Students should never put themselves in harm's way, but a small group of students speaking out can be very effective.  Phrases like "Leave her alone" or "stop picking on him" can really undermine a bullies control.

• Stand up.  This is a brave and highly effective way to deal with bullies.  When someone is being teased or intimidated, walk over and stand with that person.  Or, invite them to join your group of friends.  Keep in mind that your behavior is NOT intended to insult or harm the bully.  Instead, it is meant to prevent or stop another attack.
