Dear Community,

As we approach the end of the academic year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude and congratulations to all of you for another successful year of learning and growth in our District.

Throughout the year, our dedicated teachers, staff, and administrators have worked tirelessly to provide our students with the best possible education and support. Their commitment to excellence and passion for their work are truly inspiring, and I am proud to lead such a talented and dedicated team.

Our students also have been a great source of pride and inspiration. They have shown determination, resilience, and creativity as they have pursued their academic and personal goals. They have embraced new challenges and opportunities, and they have made remarkable progress in their learning and development.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our families and community. Your partnership, involvement, and encouragement have been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals and fulfill our mission to provide a world-class education to all of our students.

As we look ahead to the summer and the next academic year, I am excited about the possibilities and opportunities that lie ahead. I am confident that we will continue to work together, learn from one another, and grow as a community.

Thank you again for your dedication, commitment, and support. I am proud to be a part of the Chagrin Falls School District, and I look forward to the future with enthusiasm and accomplishing the goals and action steps in our new strategic plan.

On May 31, our Board of Education will adopt the District's new strategic plan. The community is welcome to attend the meeting that will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. I am confident that this new strategic plan will elevate Chagrin Falls Schools to an even higher level.

I hope everyone enjoys the many activities and events planned as we near the end of this school year.

As we look toward the end of another academic year, it’s safe to say this year has been one for the books! It is important to recognize that our success as a District and as a community is the direct result of the collaboration, hard work, and investment from our teachers, educators, administrators, professional teams, and families.

One of the preeminent themes of this year has been collaboration. Merriam-Webster defines collaboration as “the action of working with someone to produce or create something.” It is the idea of working in unison toward one shared goal. What Chagrin has shown time and time again is that authentic collaboration in our community creates opportunities for everyone. It is the ingredient that makes our schools and our community such a special place. It is important to consider some of the accomplishments that we’ve had together, showing the power of collaboration, and the positive impact that it has had on this community. It is a testament to our new District mantra “Write the Story.”

As a District, we continue to perform at the top in terms of state and national metrics. We have earned five stars in every category of 2022 Ohio School Report Card. We have the third highest performance index score in the State of Ohio out of 607 school districts. We are one of only 12 schools in the entire state to have five stars in every category on the report card. We have also been recognized as the number one STEM High School in Ohio. Gurney Elementary and Chagrin Falls Intermediate Schools are Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators' Hall of Fame Schools. The National Association of Music Merchants has named Chagrin Falls Schools one of the ‘Best Communities for Music Education in the Nation.’ Our treasurer's department consistently receives the ‘Highest Achievement in Open and Transparent Government Finance Officers Association Award’ along with other numerous financial and operational awards.

We could go on and on about what we have accomplished as a District. The accolades are almost too numerous to list. What we do know is that these accomplishments show the incredible level of investment in our students. When we look closely, we see our students are shining across academic disciplines, community service programs, social service initiatives, the arts, athletics, and multiple leadership spaces. We also know our students are more than just academic scholars. They continue to impress us with their empathy, their advocacy, their determination, and their passion. Chagrin truly is educating the next generation of leaders who are always considering the lives of others. Again, what a testament to the collaboration, hard work, and dedication of all in our community. While there is always more work to be done and areas to improve, it is important to pause and reflect on what we have accomplished. As we move toward the summer months, we look forward to graduation, Blossom, and spending time with family and friends. As a community and as a District, we have much to be proud of. The board wishes you all a wonderful and relaxing summer break.

The District's 2022-23 school year theme is “This is Chagrin. Write the Story.”

The work we are doing this year centers around our school community sharing their stories and experiences to write a narrative for what we collectively believe and want for our students. This is a perfect statement that outlines what we hope to accomplish through the strategic planning process. Core values and beliefs are the foundation of strategic planning and establishing the culture of an organization. It is what makes school a special place to learn, work, and succeed, and a school community a special place to live. Are we ready to educate the next generation of students? How will the story we write this year impact their story in the future?

Throughout the school year, our students, staff, parents/guardians, and community will be encouraged to help “write the story of Chagrin Falls Schools” in numerous ways. From participating in the creation of the District’s strategic plan to actually being an author highlighting the commitment and dedication to academic excellence and preparation of our students for the world after graduation.

As a District, we look toward the future and ask all of you to engage with us as we help write Chagrin’s story for many years to come.
