National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award

Each week between now and the Eagle Recognition Dinner, we will profile one of the NOESA recipients. This week we are recognizing Timothy Phillips.

Timothy Phillips is a leader in the field of conflict resolution and reconciliation and founder of Beyond Conflict, a global non-profit that has created powerful and innovative frameworks to open pathways for progress in peace talks, transitions to democracy, and national reconciliation in the aftermath of division and violence in dozens of countries around the world. Under his leadership, Beyond Conflict has catalyzed the field of behavioral science and social conflict and partners with scientists and practitioners to bring forward new evidence-based strategies to reduce conflict, increase tolerance, and facilitate positive social change in the United States and abroad.  Mr. Phillips has advised the United Nations, the U.S. Department of State, and the Council of Europe, and helped launch the Club of Madrid, a forum of 120 former democratic Heads of State and Government who work to strengthen global democracy and institutions. Mr. Phillips was educated at Suffolk University, the London School of Economics, and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2018.

Tim became an Eagle Scout in 1976 and was a member of Troop 3 in Brighton, MA. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and started scouting as a Webelos and later became an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 5 West Roxbury. He served on staff at T.L. Storer from 1978-1983 in the roles of Trading Post Manager, Scout Craft Director and Field Sports Director.

Completes 4th Basic CERT Training Class

On Saturday April 29, 2023 the SoA CERT/Teen CERT program completed the Hands-On portion of the 4th hybrid Basic Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training at the Methuen Police Department. To date there have been over 60 senior Scouts, Explorers, Venturers, Sea Scout, scouting professional and adult leaders trained. In collaboration with FEMA, MEMA, the Methuen Emergency Manager and the Methuen Law Enforcement Exploring program these four classes have been very successful.  Volunteer instructors from NH and MA assist in reviewing the 12-hour online portion of the training in a fun and exciting hands-on day. Upon participants completing the online course and the Hands-On day all receive their basic CERT certificate. They may use their training for themselves and their families or may get involved in their local community as a CERT or Teen CERT team member.

For more information about upcoming CERT/Teen CERT classes, please contact SoA CERT/Teen CERT Coordinator Dan Perenick at fema-scouting@scoutspirit.org or call him at 978-423-3786. Next basic CERT class will be in September 2023.
