The Lyons Township High School District #204 Board of Education conducted a Regular Action Meeting on Monday, September 19, 2022, in the Board Room at North Campus. The following items occurred during the meeting:

Public Hearing on Lyons Township High School District 204 FY 23 Budget
The Board held a public hearing on the fiscal year 2023 Budget. No public comments were made.

Student Representative to the Board Report
Student Rep Matthew Walsh shared a variety of updates regarding athletics and extracurriculars. He was excited to share that many of the LT’s athletic teams are thriving and that extracurriculars are off to a strong start this year with many clubs having had successful first meetings. Matthew also shared an update on upcoming Homecoming activities.

Superintendent’s District Report
Deaf Awareness Month
September is Deaf Awareness Month. A variety of activities have been planned here at LT, including a staff ASL training last week that was facilitated by LTHS ASL teacher, Krystle Conrad. 
 
Suicide Awareness Month 
NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness has identified September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Throughout the month of September, LT is bringing light to suicide awareness. On our campuses, announcements will be provided, ribbons will be worn and other activities planned. The Students Against Violence Everywhere is launching a week-long Start with Hello program

LatinX Heritage Month
LTHS is currently celebrating LatinX Heritage Month, which is observed each year from September 15 to October 15. At LTHS, approximately 24%, or 933 students, are of Hispanic or Latino origin. Several activities are planned including hosting the Voices of Chicago from the Chicago Poetry Center for two special performances on Friday of last week. 
 
Community Theme of the Beginning of the School Year
A common theme during the first 4 weeks of the school year has been community, and specifically, providing our community with an opportunity to see our campuses, provide their thoughts and input, and connect with our staff, leadership team, and Board of Education. This theme has been realized by hosting events suchs as the Community Chat with our Board of Education, Parent/Guardian Open Houses at North and South Campus, LT Community Advisory Council, and Homecoming 2022. 

Recognition of Class of 2022 National Merit Semi-finalists
LT is proud to announce that ten seniors have been named semifinalists in the 68th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. LT’s ten National Merit Semifinalists are Anne Dillon, Taylor Dudek, Andrew Elrod, Ella Happel, Nicholas Lorenzen, Peter Mikulski, Matthew Ozark, Josephine Powell, Joseph Wall, and Anna Zierdt. 

District Compensation Reports
Public Acts 096-0434, 097-0256, and 097-0609 require that on or before October 1 of each school year, all school districts must share with its Board of Education and post on its website an itemized salary compensation report for every employee in the district, which includes base salary, pension contributions, health insurance costs, and any other form of compensation. Accordingly, the district compensation reports were provided and have been posted on our LTHS website. 
 
FOIA 
Since our August meeting, we have received two FOIA requests:
  • Two local reporters submitted a request for a settlement agreement that was approved by the Board of Education on August 15.
 
Vita Plena Award
Congratulations to our first Vita Plena Award recipient for the new school year, Mary Alice Gamble, who has been the Administrative Assistant in the Curriculum and Instruction Office since starting her career with LTHS in 2005. The Vita Plena Award has been presented by the Superintendent to a deserving individual since the mid 1990’s. The recipients exhibit themes of innovation, inspiration and creativity. Action Items
Unfinished Business
The Adoption of Lyons Township High School District 204 FY 23 Budget was approved as presented for all of the approvals.

The Policy Recommendations for Policy 7:240 Conduct Code for Participants in Extracurricular activities and Policy 7:180 Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation and Harassment were approved.

New Business
The Negotiated Agreement between the Board of Education of Lyons Township High School District 204 and the Lyons Township Service Employees’ International Union, A.F.L. - C.I.O. Local No. 73 Change to Win (CTW) was approved.

The Teachers’ Retirement System Supplemental Savings Plan was approved. 

The BME Final Electric Change Order was approved. 

The Resolution Authorizing the District Treasurer to Transfer funds from the Educational Fund and the O&M Fund to the Capital Projects Fund was approved.
 
Informational Items
The review of the 2023-2024 School Year Calendar was presented as a first reading. 
The Administration Team is still collecting feedback from staff, students, the community and feeder school districts. Once that feedback has been collected, revisions will be made and a new version will be presented for review as a second reading in October.

The Curriculum Change Proposals were presented for a first reading. Work is still being done to more fully develop an Engineering course description and a final version will be presented for a second reading in October. 

Consent Agenda
The Consent Agenda was approved.
