I am inviting people to sign up for one of four "Meet and Greet" sessions. These are just some opportunities for me to continue getting to know the people of Maplewood.

The sessions will be:

- Tuesday August 13th - 6:30 p.m.

- Thursday August 15th - 3:30 p.m.

- Monday August 19th - 10:00 a.m.

- Tuesday August 20th - 6:30 p.m.

Starting this Sunday there will be sign-up sheets in the "Narthex." I'd like to have 12-15 people per session; if they fill up, we will schedule some more sessions.

A Note from Pastor Andy

Week four of the “Come to the Table” worship series will center on the story known as “The Walk to Emmaus.” Found in Luke 24, the story is a post-resurrection encounter that begins on the road and ends at the table.

During the story, Jesus walks along with two disciples, and interprets the Scriptures to them. As he does so, the disciples' spirits fill with warmth. Later they ask, “Were not our hearts burning within us?” As they process the new ideas, they are edified by their learning.

For a follower of Jesus, there is always more to know. And in the church, learning happens most effectively in small groups, in which there is opportunity to wonder, question, and discuss things together. Nobody knows it all (although some may think they do!), and because of that, we learn best when we learn together.

While the Emmaus story begins on the road, the learning really clicks into place at the table, as Jesus breaks the bread. Teaching and learning (a.k.a.didache) are such an important part of Christian Discipleship, but “book smarts” are only part of the whole. It truly becomes “heart-warming” around the table in community within the Body of Christ.

“Come to the Table,” week four: This Sunday in worship! I’ll see y’all in church!

This is the last Sunday for picking up an envelope off the Giving Tree and to sign up to donate items for Build-A-Gift

Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is outreach to families who need extra assistance at Christmas time. You can take a envelope from the Giving Tree and place a $25 Walmart gift card (or check) in it and put it in the offering plate. There are also envelopes for Christmas wrapping paper to wrap the gifts.

We are offer this opportunity to give in July instead of during the busy holiday. Gifts will be given at Christmas.

Build A Gift (BAG)

BAG is an annual event where children from the community can make several gifts to give to family at no charge.

For items purchased for Build-A-Gift be sure, to mark off the item on the list on the message board at the back of the Sanctuary. Also check the message board first before purchasing items, some may have been already purchased. Purchased items can be place at the bottom of the message board

Got old eyeglasses, reading glasses, or sunglasses?

The Pink Box drive is a project that Kaelyn Krysowaty, a local rising 9th grader, has initiated for her Girl Scout Silver Award. She’s working with the Maplewood Lion’s Club to collect glasses that will be restored and reloved by people in need of visual support in our very community. Thank you so much for your cooperation!
