BC launches watershed security strategy engagement
The BC Government launched engagement on a new provincial Watershed Security Strategy and Fund on January 25, and has prepared a discussion paper to provide background information and enable input on a broad range of watershed security related themes. The themes include watershed governance, data and science, reconciliation, drinking water, land use planning, supply and demand, and funding. Read more
Local government-Indigenous relations survey

UBCM is launching a new survey on Indigenous Relations intended for local government staff and elected officials. This survey will be used to inform advocacy and update existing reconciliation and relationship building resources for members. Read more
Bylaw adjudication town hall

On March 2, 2022, the Ministry of Attorney General, in partnership with UBCM, will be hosting a town hall meeting with local governments on the bylaw adjudication program. Federal consultations on landfill emissions
The Government of Canada has launched two consultations on measures to reduce methane emissions from landfills. The first seeks input on proposed methane emission reduction regulations, while the second invites feedback on a proposed greenhouse gas offset system protocol. Read more

The minutes of the 2021 Annual Convention are now available. These minutes comprise the official record of the proceedings of the 2021 Annual Convention, held virtually from September 14-17, 2021.
Approach to Geographical Naming Engagement

The Province is conducting engagement on updates to British Columbia’s Geographical Naming Principles, Policy, and Procedures to further reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Interested local government representatives are asked to register in advance to participate in virtual engagement sessions being held on February 8 and 9, or email for a link to an online survey.
