NEW: PĀ‘INA FOOD COURT IS OPEN!

We are finally open to campus and to the public. For now, ordering must be in-person; no orders will be taken online. (We are working on the computer system so we can do both online and in-person ordering but currently we cannot do both.)

The Pā‘ina Building will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday. You can come in, pre-order and pre-pay and your order can be picked up later at either World Plate or Paniolo Grill, whichever outlet you ordered from. Or, you can come in at the time you’re ready to eat and order, pay and wait for your food. Wait times should be short as we have many food items to choose from and we will have two cashiers during lunch time hours.

Please note: Credit cards only; we have no cash on hand. Welcome back!

ACKNOWLEDGE KINDNESS

As our Culinary Arts Program faculty and staff “inspire their students and celebrate the diversity of food and cultures throughout the world,” they are offering an opportunity to acknowledge the many kindnesses we see happening every day on our campus!

Nominate a college faculty, staff, or student you observe perform an act of kindness. They will be acknowledged for their kindness and eligible to be randomly selected to receive a delectable lunch from the Paniolo Grill.

NEW: TELEWORK POLICY

Effective March 1, 2022 - Telework requests will be evaluated on the merits of the requestor’s work plan, outcomes and beneficial interaction with the rest of the unit and the customers of the unit.

If you feel that your position could be eligible for telework and would like to make a request, please begin by discussing this with your immediate supervisor and refer to our UHMC UHMC Academic Affairs Telework Guidance. Also, be aware that telework requirements vary slightly between unions. Here are the UH FAQʻs on telework for your reference.

Also, please note that instructional faculty do not need to request permission to telework. Non-instructional faculty should refer to the guidance below.

NEW: SPRING 2022 MEDIA COMPETITION

As part of Academy for Creative Media Maui’s first annual Graduate Showcase event to be held online on May 6, we are holding a Spring Media Competition that is open to all UHMC students. This effort is led by one of our former graduates, Dexter Corpuz, who is soon to graduate from ACM West O‘ahu with a B.A. in Creative Media. Dexter continues to work closely with Marc Antosch and Brian Kohne, along with the newest member of our instructional team, Saedene Ota. In the past year, Dexter has been voted (by his peers) as ACM WO student of the month twice, reflecting positively upon UHMC and solidifying our program as a viable bridge for high schoolers to ACM WO and other four-year institutions.

Complete competition information here.

Please contact Dexter Corpuz at dextersc@hawaii.edu with questions.

Deadline for submissions is April 13th.

Good luck, everyone!
