Student climate activists featured in major K-12 publication



DPS Students for Climate Action was featured in Education Week, a highly esteemed, independent news organization focusing on K-12 education.


Climate change is anxiety-inducing for students, and they turned to activism to promote change at the school district level, resulting in the successful adoption of DPS Ends Statement 1.6 on Climate Action by the Board of Education.

Earth Day Events

DPS Students for Climate Action is hosting the first-ever DPS Climate Action Summit - an event for students and by students! The summit is Saturday, April 22 from 1-4 p.m. at Manual High School.

 

Students will learn from their peers about how to further their sustainability club's goals, support DPS's Climate Action Plan, and fight for a livable future!

The DPS STEAM Department is hosting its first-ever Sustainability Expo on Saturday, April 29 at the CSU SPUR Campus to immerse Denver students, families, and schools in the world of opportunities that exist through STEAM and sustainability!

Denver's compost guidelines have changed


Effective April 1, ONLY food scraps and yard & plant trimmings will be accepted in residential and commercial compost collection. Compostable service ware, paper products, and compostable bags larger than 3 gallons are NO LONGER accepted in the compost stream. 


These changes are being made because the compost processing facility serving the Denver metro area has been receiving too much contamination (materials that are not actually compostable), and it needs to ensure it has the right raw materials to make a CLEAN compost product.
