My Baby is a Scholar Event Provides Parents a Vision for College
Over 65 children and parents joined CCF at The University of Texas at Dallas in March for our inaugural "My Baby is a Scholar" day. Families with young children from CCF's outreach programs sat in on a college 'class' about shapes and numbers, participated in activities, and took pictures in a graduation cap and gown. UTD admissions representatives, community groups, and CCF researchers were on hand to speak with parents and provide resources.
2022 Annual Report
Our 2022 annual report is now available online. The report details our educational and programmatic impacts over the past year and highlights affiliated research in 2022. Thank you to those who have supported our vision to become a nationally recognized research center where leading scholars and students generate knowledge and apply developmental science to service for children, families, and professionals to advance children's optimal development.
REU Students Present Research Projects at SOAR Poster Session
Our Research Experiences for Undergraduate (REU) student fellows joined other students and faculty from many research labs in March at the Supporting Outstanding Academic Research (SOAR) awards and symposium. Sponsored by the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences, the event recognized outstanding young scholars with under-represented identities or perspectives in diversity-related issues in brain or behavioral sciences. Our REU students presented their research projects at a poster session at the event.
Thank You for Your Support on Comets Giving Days!
Thank you to the many students, staff, faculty, and community members who supported CCF on Comets Giving Days! CCF raised $4,553 from 39 gifts plus earned bonus funds for our door decoration contest, number of gifts among centers, and other challenges that will be added to our total! Thank you to CCF faculty affiliates, our Advisory Council, and to Dr. Sylvia Allgaier for providing challenge matches - we successfully met all of them!
Dr. Mandy Maguire Receives Women Leading in Diversity Award
CCF faculty affiliate Dr. Mandy Maguire was recently honored as the faculty leader award recipient at the Women Leading in Diversity awards ceremony. Led by the UTD Galerstein Gender Center and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the ceremony honored women, both on- and off-campus, who are committed to eradicating barriers to justice and equity and whose leadership goes beyond representational diversity and inclusion. Congratulations Dr. Maguire!
From the Director
It's been another busy month with numerous events and celebrations. Our spring lecture series has drawn multiple community members, researchers, and students for engaging talks promoting children's healthy development. I'm proud of the service learning class who helped organize and deliver a successful fundraising campaign via Comets Giving Days. Their CCF door (and conference room glass wall) decoration was imaginative, creative, and fun--and the best! We are a small but mighty team with the support of those around us!
