Santiago High School on Track to Open New Classroom Building

Construction crews are hard at work this summer building a new modular 2-story building with 24 classrooms to replace the portable learning structure at Santiago High School. This week, the crew poured concreted for the quad and worked on plastering the elevator and front of the building. They are also working on new infrastructure in the school’s kitchen, including new HVAC, kitchen equipment, quarry tile and assessable serving lines. The new classroom building and upgraded kitchen will be ready for the start of the school year on August 12. Kudos to GGUSD's Facilities Team on this exciting project.

Students Tackle Fun Science Experiments

Violette Elementary Summer School students tackled the challenge of building earthquake-resistant structures during a fun, interactive science lesson (Goal 1). Students put into play scientific knowledge, ingenuity and teamwork.

GGUSD's Adult Education Program Receives Top Award

Garden Grove Adult Education was recognized last week with a Promising Practice Award for fostering a supporting learning environment and excellence in its new student orientation. The award was presented by the California Department of Education and CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems).

Garden Grove Adult Education does a phenomenal job providing opportunities to adult learners, helping them achieve their educational and career goals and supporting them on the path to lifelong success (Goal 3). Over 600 students took the most recent survey and 100% said they felt welcome at the school’s orientation. GGAE also saw a 30% increase from last year in the number of students who reported successful employment and earnings after completing the program.

GGUSD Provides Free Summer Meals

Don't forget that GGUSD's Free Summer Meals program is offered at 14 school campuses and 2 library sites and is available through July 12. Our dedicated Food Service employees work hard to ensure children have access to nutritional meals when school is not in session. Last year, the program served 114,600 meals!
