Funding Great Schools. Rooted in Community.
Women's History Month
Honoring Victoria Scott-Haynes
March celebrates the integral part women have played in the history of this country and allows us to celebrate the contributions women have made which have impacted our lives past, present and future. It is no different this month as we celebrate the women of RootED Denver who continue to live out our mission of equity for all students in Denver Public Schools.

At the March 3 Food Distribution, hosted by Montbello Organizing Committee, our own Victoria Scott-Haynes, Partner, Community Relations & Administration, was awarded the Denver7 Everyday Hero award, presented to Coloradoans who are making a difference in the community. She was surprised with the award as she shared this special moment with her husband, Mark, and all the volunteers, who gathered to give her a grand applause.

“I am stunned, and this brought me to tears. I love my community and have spent my life working to lift those around me in a variety of ways. I am honored to receive such an award because it comes from the community and gives validation to the work one person can do for those around them,” said Victoria.

Victoria has worked tirelessly in support of public education and is a vital member of our community, consistently dedicating her time to others in support of making the place we live better for those who live here. She is driven by a passion to make a difference and give back and we are honored to work alongside Victoria at RootED and in the community.
Innovation Executive Limitation Vote Tomorrow
Each of the 52 Denver Public Schools Innovation schools is unique with differing types of flexibility based on the school’s respective innovation plan. The Denver Public Schools Board of Education will vote on an amended Executive Limitation tomorrow, March 24 that will impact all innovation teachers and over 24,000 students served in innovation schools. Innovation leaders held a Town Hall on March 9 to discuss the impacts of the Executive Limitation. Over 950 attendees participated on Zoom in support of Innovation schools, teachers, and students.

Make your voice heard and share your thoughts with your local Board of Education representative and be sure to watch the Board of Education meeting with public comment on Thursday, March 24 at 4:30 p.m.
Compassion Day at
Downtown Denver Expeditionary School

Downtown Denver Expeditionary School celebrates Compassion Day every February 14—sharing their compassion with the community. This year’s celebration focused on demonstrating compassion for health care workers and first responders as they continue to deal with overwork, fatigue and burnout.
Students created thank you cards, banners, and shared their thanks on video for healthcare workers. Alongside donations from their community, school administrators delivered the student artwork along with care packages and treats to the Child Life Unit of Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, the PICU at Children’s Hospital and Saint Joseph Hospital.

“We are so appreciative that you and the children took the time to create such a wonderful video! I know the staff also appreciated all the thoughtful cards, the banner, the treats and especially the coffee. Every little detail was so thoughtful and needed during this challenging time,” said one health care worker.
Join Us for a Facebook Live Event
Join us today, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. for an important conversation around SchoolChoice in Denver Public Schools (DPS), how to get involved in the process, and why RootED Denver supports unique school models throughout the district. We will be joined by Ariel Taylor Smith, Co-Founder of Transform Education Now and Kelly Okoye, Chief of Learning at Radical Arts Academy of Denver, a K-8 charter school with an arts-based/community-responsive model opening in 2023.

Be on the lookout for our next Facebook Live on April 6 on declining enrollment in DPS.
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
Co-Teaching at KIPP Northeast Elementary
March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and we are featuring our partners at KIPP Northeast Elementary who have focused on a co-teaching model since 2018. In an era where "co-teaching" is the ideal teaching method for Special Education programs, Laura Resetarits, Special Education Specialist, has built a program of high standards, IEP compliant services, and supports to all students in Ms. Lisa Phillips' engaging third grade class. Individually and in groups, learners are active and organized with the content. Students work on a balance of differentiated math, grade level math, Do the Math, and probes to discover a variety of math concepts. Pictured is a review lesson on fractions where students come to the same answer through varied instruction.
