April 14 - April 23, 2023

Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The resurrection happens whether or not Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb, the disciples meet Jesus in Galilee, we go to church every day in Holy Week, or our liturgies are well-organized and fully staffed. But the particular way we pray our way through Holy Week and Easter takes a lot of sometimes invisible labor. Now on the other side of Easter Sunday, I am especially grateful to those who made our Holy Week observances work so well. This year, Spring Break/Masters Week left us a little shorthanded, so a smaller-than-usual band of ministers worked extra hard to make sure the table was set, the word was proclaimed, the bread and wine were shared, the cross and chancel bloomed, and our songs were sung. On behalf of the whole church, I am grateful to all who filled in the gaps and improvised arrangements for a faithful, powerful Holy Week.
As we move into the Easter season, we aren't slowing down too much. Below, you'll find information on many of the ways that we are living in the light of the resurrection in the coming weeks. I want to call your attention to two parallel but distinct formation opportunities this Easter. On Tuesday nights by Zoom, we're reading The Rule of Benedict: a Spirituality for the 21st Century, by Joan Chittister. Chittister walks us through foundational document of Western monasticism, mining it for the rich contemporary spiritual guidance it still provides. And this Sunday at 9:30 in the Berlin Room, we begin a series called Benedict, Anglicanism, and Us. That possibly sounds a little dry, but I trust it won't be. We'll explore how the Anglican tradition can be understood as extending the spirituality of the monastic life to all Christians, and we'll follow that insight to grow more deeply into our vocations and end by drafting a "Rule of Life" for ourselves. If you're looking for ways to grow in your faith as a way of life, I think these two offerings will be fertile ground for you. I hope to see you Sunday! (And just about every other day of the week, at the activities you'll find below!)

Children's Procession at the 11 AM service
|
This week our children will offer our mite boxes during the 11 AM service. Our children received mite boxes a few weeks ago and were asked to collect money in their boxes as a Lenten practice. We will process forward at the offering on Sunday morning at 11 AM and offer our gifts. This is such a beautiful, meaningful way for our kids to actively engage in giving of themselves and investing in the church and its ministries. If you did not receive a box or if you have misplaced yours, please text me at 706.833.8541 and I will have a new one ready for your child on Sunday. Contact Kim Butler for more information.
