Carrillo Elementary Receives Special Visit from Angels Pitcher

Carrillo Elementary School was selected as the Angels Baseball Adopt-A-School for the 2022-2023 school year and students were delighted to receive a visit from Angels’ Pitcher Carlos Estéves this week. Carlos shared his story with students and encouraged them to have grit and perseverance, highlighting the importance of overcoming disappointments and failures that are sure to come in life.

Carrillo was recognized during the Tuesday Angels game with videos and photos of the visit. As part of the program, students received tickets to a game in May and the school received a $2,000 grant to support its PBIS Program. A huge thank you to Roger Lodge, Carlos Estéves, the Angels Foundation, the Angels Strike Force team, and OC Waste and Recycle who teamed up to make this day possible for Carrillo students.

Congratulations to Bolsa Grande High School senior Emily Spencer who earned a full ride scholarship to Columbia University! Emily is a QuestBridge Scholar and AP Scholar and participates in Bolsa Grande's Women's League and California Scholarship Federation. She is currently editing her own novel which she plans to publish. At Columbia, she will major in English and Creative Writing. She ultimately wants to work in the publishing industry, either as an editor at a Big Five publisher or at the New York Times Book and Culture column. She envisions writing, and maybe publishing, a few books of her own! #GGUSDPride
