Dear Shir Chadash family,

The search for our congregation’s next rabbi is moving into a new phase. As none of the previous candidates for a permanent position yielded the right match, we are now interviewing candidates for an interim position. This will serve as a bridge to provide leadership and stability as we continue looking for a permanent leader.

This Sunday and Monday, March 13-14, we will welcome our next rabbinic candidate, with Rabbi Scott Hoffman joining us from Maryland. We apologize for the short notice, but the process needs to move quickly at this point to give us the best chance of successfully securing the best candidate for our shul. We hope you will join us in welcoming him to Shir Chadash.

We have scheduled several events over the course of Sunday and Monday that will allow as many congregants to meet Rabbi Hoffman as possible. There is no registration required. Please do your best to participate in as many activities as you can, whether remotely or in-person.

The schedule of events for the upcoming visit by Rabbi Hoffman is below.

Rabbi Scott A. Hoffman will be visiting from Olney, Maryland, where he has served as interim rabbi since July 2019. Prior to that, Rabbi Hoffman spent a year serving as interim rabbi at Beth El of Yardley, Pennsylvania. Rabbi Hoffman’s previous two decades were spent in Long Island, New York, serving as rabbi at Temple Israel of South Merrick (2007-18) and Lake Success Jewish Center in Great Neck (1995-2007). Most notably for Shir Chadash, Rabbi Hoffman spent his first two years after being ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary as the rabbi at Chevra Thilim here in New Orleans (1991-93). Rabbi Hoffman is a seasoned distance runner with marathon experience in Boston and New York. His wife of 32 years, Phyllis Golden Hoffman, is a music teacher at PS 90 in Brooklyn, and the couple has three adult sons.
