Reporting Back - March 2022
At the forefront of all our minds at the moment is the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Putin’s unnecessary aggression has already cost too many lives and caused too much suffering. I know the thoughts and prayers of us all are with the Ukrainian people at this time. I had the privilege of signing the Book of Solidarity for Ukraine in the House of Commons on behalf of the people of Wimbledon.

I provide a link to my statement on the Ukraine here. I will endeavour to provide further updates as more information emerges: https://www.stephenhammond.net/news/my-statement-russian-invasion-ukraine

I also provide a link here on how to help people in Ukraine locally, nationally, and internationally: https://www.stephenhammond.net/news/how-help-ukraine

Stephen
Royal Mail
I have been in continuous contact with our local Royal Mail team. In January I had a meeting with Simon Thompson, CEO of Royal Mail and a further meeting with representatives to follow up with their team in February. We are starting to make progress on restoring a full mail service to Wimbledon and I will be having a further progress review meeting in due course. I know many constituents are concerned about the service they are receiving, and I sympathise with all of those residents who are continuing to experience these unacceptable delays.
Climate Change Drop-in
On 19th February I held a local Climate Change drop-in for residents to share their ideas for tackling climate change with me and how we can ensure Net Zero leads to higher standards of living and technological innovation, along with less air pollution, safer streets, and greener homes. I will be hosting more drop-ins soon and look forward to hearing more ideas from local people.

I attach the QR code here for anyone who would like to add their own ideas:
Holocaust Memorial Day and Book of Remembrance
I was privileged to sign the House of Commons Book of Remembrance on Holocaust Memorial Day. We must never forget those who lost their lives in the Holocaust nor let anything like it happen again. Our memorials and reflection have been made all the more poignant by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which suffered so greatly throughout World War Two.
Rail Station Nominees
I’m pleased to have nominated Raynes Park and Wimbledon Chase stations for the next round of Access for All Funding. Making local transport more accessible for all is hugely important and I am pleased to have been able to nominate these two stations in addition to Motspur Park which I had previously nominated.
Cancer Drop-in
March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. It was great to drop into the Teal Heroes event with Target Ovarian Cancer in Parliament on 2nd of March to raise awareness of the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. More information can be found here: https://targetovariancancer.org.uk/
Boundaries Representations
On Monday 7th March I made representations to the boundary commission on their proposals to remove Cannon Hill from the Wimbledon constituency. I made it clear that this would not be compatible with their responsibility to preserve community links and encouraged them to look again at my submission which keeps Cannon Hill within Wimbledon and preserves our community. I provide a link here to my initial response to the boundary commission’s proposals: https://www.bcereviews.org.uk/node/79551/view
Wimbledon Police Station
I met our local police officers recently and discussed with the Borough Commander the importance of keeping Wimbledon Police Station open, particularly as a base of operations for the new police officers being recruited. Keeping Wimbledon Police Station open is a key priority for me and the Mayor of London is wrong to seek its closure.
Visit to DEBRA Raynes Park Store
It was great to visit the DEBRA UK store in Raynes Park this weekend. The work they do supporting individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa is so important and I’m proud to support them.

More information can be found on their work and their “Spread Your Wings” campaign here: https://www.debra.org.uk/

All England Lawn Tennis Club
Whilst I recognise the benefits brought by a new public access park, this application is too large and too dense in its existing form. I hope that the AELTC will listen to the concerns of residents and make the necessary changes to their plans.

Please find a link to my initial statements regarding the AELTC here:
