HRAF staff members Matthew Longcore and Leon Doyon look forward to attending the Society for American Archaeology 87th Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois. HRAF will be an exhibitor at the event showcasing our eHRAF Archaeology database and related teaching resources. On Monday, February 28, HRAF staff members and UConn students had a small in-person event to celebrate Anthropology Day. The deadline to apply for our HRAF Summer Institute has been extended to March 30, 2022. We encourage faculty, researchers, and advanced graduate students to apply. At the 50th anniversary meeting of the Society for Cross-Cultural Research, HRAF President Carol Ember was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Congratulations to Carol on this well-deserved honor!

The 87th Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology (SAA) will be held in Chicago, Illinois from March 30 to April 3, 2022. This year's meeting will be the SAA's first in-person annual meeting since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. SAA's annual meeting brings together the archaeological community to celebrate their field, meet and network, share ideas, best practices, and state of the art knowledge.
HRAF is excited for the opportunity to showcase our eHRAF Archaeology database and related teaching materials, as well as our other databases and open access resources for comparative archaeological research. We welcome all booth attendees to ask about free trials for their institutions. HRAF staff members Matthew Longcore and Leon Doyon will be in the Exhibit Hall at Booth 500.

On Monday, February 28, HRAF hosted a celebration in honor of Anthropology Day, the yearly event for anthropologists to share our discipline with the world around us. This was our third annual Anthropology Day event. This year, we were pleased to be able to host a small in-person event. A group of undergraduate students from the University of Connecticut visited HRAF for lunch, a Yale campus tour, and a visit to the New Haven Museum.
Carol Ember presented the history of HRAF and a recent cross-cultural research project on loose and tight cultures. Melvin Ember Interns Danielle Russell and Anj Droe discussed their work with HRAF's open access database, Explaining Human Culture. UConn Honors students presented their eHRAF Workbook and Nascent Worlds projects from the Fall 2021 semester of ANTH 1000 Peoples and Cultures of the World.

HRAF President Carol Ember attended the 50th anniversary annual meeting of the Society for Cross-Cultural Research (SCCR), which took place from February 16-19 in San Diego, California. SCCR is a multi-disciplinary organization, whose members share a common devotion to conducting cross-cultural research. SCCR members are professionals and students from disciplines including Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, and related fields including Education, Family Studies, Social Work, Human Development, Psychiatry, Communications, Ethnic Studies, and Business.
On Friday, February 18, Dr. Ember participated in the panel discussion "Past Presidents' Reflections on SCCR", which was co-chaired by Judith Gibbons of Saint Louis University and Deborah Best of Wake Forest University. Dr. Ember also had the honor of being presented with the SCCR Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented by Alyssa Crittenden of University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The institute will train faculty, researchers, and advanced graduate students in the theory and state-of-the art methods for conducting regional and worldwide comparative research. The aim is for these methods to be incorporated into educational courses and cross-cultural research using anthropological data. The second three-week Summer Institute will be held from July 18 to August 5, 2022 in New Haven, Connecticut.
The program will include lectures, discussion, and hands-on exercises. Each participant will design and execute a pilot project during their time at the institute. We anticipate supporting 12 applicants each summer for this intensive course. Participants will be reimbursed for all or most of their economy travel to and from the institute and they will receive free room and board on the Yale University campus during the term of the institute.
