Winter Bike to Work
(or Wherever) Day is Feb. 11
|
|
It’s time for free breakfast and one of Fort Collins' favorite wintertime events. On Friday, Feb 11, 2022, trade four wheels for two and commit to cycling wherever you’re headed! Between 7 and 9:30 a.m., bicyclists, walkers, and scooterists will find FREE breakfast at around 40 stations all around Fort Collins.
You may be wondering: doesn’t Winter Bike to Work (or Wherever) Day happen in December? For the history of the event, you’re right. We typically host Winter Bike to Work (or Wherever) Day in December. However, cities across Colorado and around the world celebrate the event in February. We’re taking the opportunity to align our event with the majority of others.
Regardless of the shift in the date, the concept remains the same. Ride your bike to work (or wherever!), and score free breakfast. Breakfast is provided by more than 50 local businesses and organizations. In exchange, we’ll ask participants to take a brief survey to help us estimate participation. In 2019, the last year we held Winter Bike to Work (or Wherever) Day, we estimate more than 2,000 community members took to the streets. Will you join us?
What if you work at home these days, or aren’t working? Then bike wherever! You don’t need to be riding TO work to participate. In fact, we hope parents taking kids to school, students on their way to class, and folks with the day off will also get out and ride.
What if it’s cold? You can still ride! Check out our Bike Winter page for tips on dressing right and selecting a route to help you stay comfortable. Winter Bike to Work (or Wherever) Day is a rain (or snow) or shine event. One of our goals for Winter Bike to Work (or Wherever) Day is to prove that riding a bike in Fort Collins is fun, safe, and easy any time of year.
We’ll post our Official Breakfast Station Map of all station locations, plus keep you posted on updates, at our Bike to Work Day page. See you the morning of Feb 11!

Transit Tip: shine a light at night
|
|
If you’re waiting at the bus stop after dark, chances are it's hard for bus drivers to see you. Follow these tips to let them know you are there:
- Shine a light (flashlight, reflective light, or just simply turning your cell phone on) when you see the bus approaching.
- Wear high-visibility or reflective clothing if you have it.
- Step out from behind the shelter side walls which can block the drivers view.
Some stops have a solar powered light. Activate the light by using the push button. Transfort has a list of stops with solar powered lights on its website.

It's a wrap! Hampshire Bikeway complete
|
|
In the City’s ongoing effort to build out the low-stress bike network, it has completed the final missing link in the Hampshire Bikeway – a safe crossing for bicyclists and pedestrians at Drake and Hampshire in southwest Fort Collins. This project was supported by a $496,000 grant from CDOT’s SRTS program, with matching funds from the City’s bike-plan implementation budget. The new crossing serves students who bike and walk to school at nearby Blevins Middle and Olander Elementary. It features the City’s newest bike box, advanced pedestrian interval, and automatic signal actuation for bicyclists. Come try it out!

Join us (virtually, most likely/probably) for this year’s Velotine's Alleycat event on Thursday, Feb 17! Let the Velotine's Alleycat self-guided tour empower you as you ride around town to checkpoints highlighting our city’s historic hotspots as they relate to the black/African American, Hispanic, women, and LGBTQ+ cultures. Everyone is a winner during this alleycat, more details to follow!
This event is to honor and empower marginalized genders, including women, non-binary folx, and trans men*. We are grateful for the continued collaboration of Bike Fort Collins, FC Moves, Fort Follies, Bike Ride For Black Lives and Ride For Racial Justice.
*Because trans women are women they aren’t referred to separately. We have only singled out trans men here because they are marginalized, while cisgender men are not. We do not mean to insinuate that trans men aren’t men. This is an event for all trans folx, in addition to others who are marginalized genders.
