Majors to Careers Employment Workshop: Month of April
Surry Community College is hosting the Majors to Careers Employment Workshop during the month of April, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Library on the Dobson Campus.
During the workshop, students will cover many skills including: resume creation, interview preparation, cover letters, elevator pitches, internships and business cards.
A Graduate Career Expo is scheduled for Friday, May 13, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Dobson campus at the Clocktower. This event will coincide with graduation rehearsal. The SCC Marketing Department will be taking free digital professional headshots of students for their social media sites during the event.

Do You Need Help with Childcare Expenses?
The North Carolina General Assembly has appropriated funding for childcare services for student-parents in community colleges for the Fall and Spring semesters. Curriculum student-parents are eligible and are encouraged to apply.
Students must complete a FAFSA, be enrolled in seated classes and have dependent children enrolled in a licensed facility. This is a reimbursement program, which pays to the student each month after receipts have been provided from the facility.

Easter Egg Hunt: April 14
Surry Community College is hosting an Eggstravaganza on Thursday, April 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Dobson campus at the Knights Grill Courtyard. Children will enjoy games, prizes, golden eggs with special prizes, giant Connect 4, giant bowling, and can have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.
The event, sponsored by the SCC Student Government Association, is free and open to the public. Children will be divided into age groups for the egg hunt: 4 and under, kindergarten - second grade, and third grade to fifth grade.

Student Poetry Submissions Due April 18
Surry Community College is holding a Poetry Contest in honor of National Poetry Month. Each SCC student is allowed to submit up to two original pieces of poetry (500 words or less). The poems will be judged by English Department faculty.
Four winning poets will have one poem displayed around campus. Submissions are due by April 18th. Winners will be notified by May 1st.
Submissions should be sent as .doc file attachments to [email protected] with the subject line “SCC Poetry Contest Submission.”

Agriculture Day: April 22
SCC will be hosting an Agriculture Day on Friday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Main Campus courtyard.
There will be agriculture presentations, a petting zoo, giveaways, games, food, music and a plant sale. Come out and learn about college agricultural opportunities and careers!

Learn about Viticulture & Enology
Surry Community College will be hosting a Viticulture & Enology Open House on Friday, April 29, starting at 1 p.m.
Surry Community College is the only community college in the Southeast with a licensed and bonded winery and a vineyard on site. We offer degree, diploma and certificate options in Viticulture, Enology, Tasting Room Operations, and Wine Marketing.
During our open house, prospective Viticulture and Enology students will tour the Surry Cellars winery and vineyard and meet Enology Instructor David Bower and Viticulture Instructor Sarah Bowman. Prospective students will also be able to apply to college and receive help with financial aid and class registration in preparation for the Fall 2022 semester. Additionally, prospective students will have a chance to learn from industry members during the Meet and Greet session.
The event is free, but pre-registration is requested. Prospective students will also be entered for a chance to win a $500 scholarship from the Surry Community College Foundation.

Surry Community College will host a blood drive on Wednesday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Gym on the Dobson campus for the American Red Cross. The event is being sponsored by the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Tech Tech: Network Maintenance Schedule
When preparing to turn in final projects or take a final exam, try to schedule them around the network maintenance schedule. If by chance a system goes down during a final exam, your connection could be lost.
Every Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. is SCC's regular network maintenance time. During this window, Technology Services will perform server updates, maintenance, and system restarts. Any particular system should not be down longer than 30 minutes.

UNCW Transfer Events
Students at Surry Community College are guaranteed admission to UNC Wilmington through the Pathway to Excellence program.
This pathway guarantees admission to UNCW for students completing an Associate in Arts or Science, with a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5 in transferable, college-level course work from SCC.
Jalen Little, UNCW Transfer Student Success Coordinator, will be available to meet with students on Monday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Knights Grill.
