It's June! How did that happen? We're ready to begin the busy summer season, and that includes switching to our extended summer schedule. Visit us Monday through Thursday 9am to 7pm; Friday 9am to 5pm; and Saturday 9am to noon.
A Friends of the Library update: At 109 members so far, we're over halfway to our goal of 200 members this year. THANK YOU to everyone who has joined or renewed their membership. If you haven't done it yet, please consider becoming a Friend. You can join online or stop by with your contribution. A donation of ANY amount makes you a member.
We have a lot planned this month, including the kick-off of weekly kids programming, a couple of local history events with Blaze, and a very special movie screening. I hope we'll see you around!

Learn about common scams & frauds TOMORROW
American consumers reported losing over $10 billion to fraud in 2023. Do you know someone who’s been the victim of an investment scam, romance scam, grandparent scam, tech support scam, or other fraud? Do you want to learn to recognize the signs of a scam so you can catch it before you get caught?
Jeff Kersten of the Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection will visit the Mercer Library on Tuesday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss the details of common scams and frauds. (That's TOMORROW!) Don't think you're too smart to get caught -- scammers know how to catch even the savviest of people. The program is free and open to all.

Hundreds of Beavers!
Friday, June 28th at 4:00 p.m… All the 'finest' minds in the northwoods will gather... for a screening of the supernatural winter epic HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS. Filmed in Wisconsin, this film is the northwoods as you’ve never seen it before.
It’s action… it’s adventure… it’s comedy… it’s free popcorn… it’s not for small children! It’s a slapstick epic about a frostbitten battle between JEAN KAYAK and DIABOLICAL BEAVERS—hundreds of them—who stand between him and survival. They Gnaw Where You Live!
The Mercer Library is excited to present a FREE screening of HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS, directed by Mike Chesik and starring Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, Olivia Graves, and Wes Tank.
But first, just before our free screening of HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS, we invite you to prepare yourself with a Beaver Bonanza! Join us at 3pm for fearsome beaver stories and facts with retired wildlife biologist Jeff Wilson, Discovery Center's Licia Johnson, and Jim Bokern of the Manitowish Waters Historical Society; a photo booth with hundreds of beavers; stick-y snacks; and fabulous door prizes!
The afternoon of events is free and open to all thanks to the generosity of Mike Chesik and the HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS filmmakers and the Friends of Mercer Public Library.

Sharing Mercer's history
Library assistant Blaze will hold a couple of local history events this month:
“Memory Mondays” are engaging gatherings where local history buffs, community enthusiasts, and curious minds come together to share insights stories and ideas about our local history. Blaze will lead an informal conversation about local history, your ideas and projects, and more. Memory Mondays will be held on the second Monday of the month from 10:00am to 12:00pm, with the next event on June 10.
Then on Tuesday, June 11 at 1:30pm, Blaze will lead a Local History Walk in downtown Mercer. Walk from Mercer School past the library and to the depot while learning and sharing stories about early school life, lumber operations, railroads, prohibition, and important early business ventures. In case of inclement weather, we will hold a guided history discussion in the library instead.
Both events are free and open to anyone with an interest in Mercer's history.
