English Major Nicole Cayton Authors Book of Poetry on Grief

In February 2023, English major Nicole Joan Cayton, 23, self-published a book titled Golden Hearts about the grief process. It is a collection of Nicole’s poems, most of which focus on healing after losing a loved one and the painful experiences that sometimes come with it. She was inspired to write this book after losing her father suddenly in 2019. She wanted to spread awareness to others experiencing grief that they aren’t alone. Nicole is passionate about making a difference in people’s lives. This passion is reflected in the career she plans to pursue as a physician assistant, while continuing to write and advocate for mental health awareness. This fall, Nicole plans to transfer to City College to pursue a bachelor’s in English with a minor in Biology. Currently, she’s working on a novel.
