New Traffic Watch Program

The Tucson Police Department Traffic Section has created a new program called Traffic Watch for community members to report dangerous driving behavior. The program went live on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023. Traffic Watch allows community members to report reckless and other illegal driving behaviors they observe occurring daily on our streets, without having to use the 911 system.

A motor officer will review the reports and decide the most appropriate option: a citation, an arrest, or a courtesy letter. Using your cellphones while driving is dangerous and a violation of traffic laws, but videos can be obtained from passengers or pedestrians. The option of calling 9-1-1 is still available when an immediate response is needed (i.e., impaired driver).

Want to Build Your Own Basin (BYOB)?

Our PVNA neighbor, Watershed Management Group (WMG), is reaching out to to recruit neighborhood leaders for their Build Your Own Basin (BYOB) program to help capture our precious desert rain.

As a neighborhood leader you host an outdoor workshop at your home for your neighbors. Andrea Salazar, WMG project manager, leads the workshop and shows everyone how to dig a basin, plant it with native plants and protect it with mulch. Building a basin is simple, but the work goes much more quickly with the help of a few neighbors with shovels!

After the initial workshop, neighbors who attended the workshop host another workshop at their home and build another basin with other neighbors, spreading the education and sharing the work amongst yourselves. WMG would continue to support the workshops by providing plants, tools and educational support.

Andrea is teaming with Rachel D'Acquisto in the Southeast quadrant to dig the first basin in this series. To discuss your own workshop with Andrea, contact her at asalazar@watershedmg.org. You can also attend BYOB events at WMG at these times:

1) Saturday, April 8th from 3pm-5pm

2) Tuesday, April 25th 5:30pm-7:30pm

3) Thursday, April 27th 5:30pm-7:30pm

DID YOU KNOW? Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is a program of neighbors watching out for each other. The purpose of the Neighborhood Watch program is to create an alert neighborhood using simple crime prevention methods.

Neighborhood Watch has several advantages, including the fact that your neighbors know who you are, what type of car you drive, and who typically belongs at your residence. A patrol officer driving by your home might not recognize someone as a stranger in your yard, but an alert neighbor would. They could then call 9-1-1 to alert police of the suspicious activity.

Neighborhood Watch does not promote vigilantism, and members of Neighborhood Watch groups are never asked to put themselves in harm’s way to prevent crime. They only observe and report suspicious activities to the Police Department. This leaves the responsibility for confronting and apprehending criminals where it belongs—with Tucson police officers.

With an uptick of petty crime in the Midtown area, we would like to encourage you to participate in Neighborhood Watch. If you want to know more, see https://www.tucsonaz.gov/police/neighborhood-watch.

Our PVNA community safety officer, Ramon Silvas, will be at the April 20 Board meeting and available for questions about Neighborhood Watch. Contact the PVNA Board at info@paloverdeneighborhood.org for help starting a Neighborhood Watch on your block!
