Welcome to April! Spring has officially started and the days are beginning to grow longer. As the weather warms up here in Western Washington, many of us are beginning to enjoy spending more of our time outdoors. That includes visiting our local farmer's markets. Consider signing up for April's Produce Pick of the Month class focused on Fennel to find out tasty ways to use a farmer's market favorite!
As we gear up for spring break and children are spending more time at home, it's important to take note of the everyday dangers that are often overlooked. Unattended windows are one of the greatest risks for a child inside the home. That's why the week of April 2nd is recognized as Window Fall Safety Week.
Another often overlooked danger within the home is improperly stored medications, cleaning supplies, and other hazards. That's why on April 12th, we are collaborating with the Washington Poison Center to provide a webinar on Preventing Poisoning at Home. This class will touch on the unique dangers that leftover prescription drugs pose to families. With accidental overdoses and opioid addiction on the rise, consider turning in your unneeded medications on the next National Prescription Takeback Day on April 22nd.To find a collection site location near you, click HERE and enter your zip code.
We have a variety of other classes on health and wellness and mental health being offered throughout the month. We hope that you take the time to look through our lineup and see all that we have to offer!
Wishing you good health and wellness,
Ardis Schmiege

April 2nd-8th:
Window Fall Safety Week
| |
Spring is a great time to open windows and air the house out, but that open window can be dangerous for a child. Since 2017, there have been nearly 130 kids who fell from windows in Snohomish County -- and all were preventable. (Excerpt from: Safe Kids Snohomish County)
Window Fall Prevention Checklist:
- Always actively supervise children around windows.
- Install window stops or locks to prevent windows from opening more than 4 inches.
- Move furniture away from windows to stop children from getting to windows by climbing on the furniture.
- Teach children that playing near windows is not safe.
- Keep closed windows locked.
- Never move a child who appears to be seriously injured after a fall — call 911.
