FNB Baseball Classic
Begins Saturday
|
The Chillicothe Paints will host the week-long 10th Annual First National Bank of Waverly Baseball Classic beginning Saturday, March 25.
A total of 30 high school teams will compete in an 18-game schedule over the seven-day period. "Opening Day" for Ohio High School baseball is Saturday, March 25, and there will be five games slated at VA Memorial Stadium, starting at 10 a.m.
There will be two games per day Monday-Friday (March 27-March 31) and the event will wrap up Saturday, April 1, with four more games, starting at 10 a.m.
The "Classic" was established in 2013 with the idea of providing local baseball fans the opportunity to watch some of the elite prep programs from around the state and southern Ohio. Many of the teams are perennial powers, making this week-long event one of the top showcases of high school baseball in Ohio.
A number of the players featured in these games are already committed to top Division I collegiate baseball programs, and many more are being heavily recruited to further their respective careers in baseball...

STEAM Ahead
gets students excited about science
|
FBP Engineer Matthew Triplett shares ideas for problem solving with Eastern Elementary students by using 3D puzzles.
|
Some Pike County students are getting a lesson in science, but if you ask them they are just having fun.
STEAM Ahead is an educational program developed by Fluor-BWXT two years ago to introduce young students to a world of opportunity provided by careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
“STEAM is the key to encouraging investigation and curiosity and allowing students to ask thought-provoking questions that promote creativity and exploration, and to connect their problem-solving to real-world solutions,” said Western SEL Coordinator, Jodi Arnett.
The program was piloted at Western Elementary in 2021, and has grown to include new schools each year; Eastern Elementary in 2022, and most recently Jasper Elementary.
“This year the program is running in all three schools and the response from the teachers and students shows the importance of educational outreach in the community,” said FBP President and CEO, Greg Wilkett. “Our mentors get just so much enjoyment working with the students, and it is a great way to share their knowledge and get the younger generation excited about science.”...

AAA7 Recruiting Farmers to Participate in Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
|
|
The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides eligible older adults with $50 in coupons each growing season to use at participating farmers’ markets and roadside stands to purchase produce. It is a federally-funded program administered by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services Agency and in Ohio, by the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA). ODA provides additional state funds to support SFMNP operation within Ohio.
In 2020, the Ohio State budget allowed for expansion of the SFMNP to all 88 counties and that support is continuing this year. As a result, AAA7 is seeking farmers to participate in the SFMNP in our ten counties (Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton). To become a participating farmer, the following criteria must be met...

|
|
Are you an individual that often thinks or states, “I feel sad for people who reside in nursing facilities and seldom have visitors?” Maybe you have thought, “Who checks on those who have no family members involved and ensures their voices are being heard?” Maybe you have retired recently and feel you need some type of meaningful connection. Conversely, you could be starting out in your career and want more experience with advocacy and working with older adults. If these statements describe you, I would love to introduce you to our Volunteer Ombudsman Program at the Area Agency on Aging District 7...
