Unite Against Book Bans

The Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS) is proud to be an organizational partner of the American Library Association’s (ALA) Unite Against Book Bans! At the December 13th MHLS Board of Trustees meeting, the board voted unanimously to become a partner of the Unite Against Book Bans Campaign.

This national initiative was launched by ALA to empower readers everywhere to stand together against censorship. Unite Against Book Bans engages with other state, local, and national efforts to build a strong and vibrant network to fight censorship.

Organizations and individuals can join the campaign to fight book bans. This non-partisan campaign leverages the reach of national organizations representing librarians, educators, parents, authors, publishers, and distributors. It includes champions for civil liberties, civil rights, and equality.

If you have not already, please visit Unite Against Book Bans and:

  • Sign up for the campaign,
  • Spread the word to your networks, and
  • Follow the campaign on social media: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Together, we are a strong force for the value of libraries and the freedom to read.

Resource Sharing & Sierra

Expanded access in OverDrive is live! Patrons now have the option to move between collections to search for and checkout titles from the Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS), Mohawk Valley Library System (MVLS), Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS) and the Southern Adirondak Library System (SALS). Through the Reciprocal Lending Agreement (RLA), each system has agreed to share items that are currently available for checkout and without standing requests. The access expands the unique titles that are available to patrons and provides potential for access to titles that have local demand but are available in the other systems. Items with metered access or cost per click will not be available or visible to “visiting” patrons. Visiting patrons cannot place holds or request purchases.
