SCRC'S Caregiver of the Month Spotlight: Rosanelly

Rosanelly is a caregiver for her 90-year-old grandmother with dementia. Rosanelly assists her grandmother with her daily lifestyle needs, including bathing, grooming, dressing, restroom needs, and meal preparation. She also provides her grandmother with safe, structured transitions between activities, schedules and attends medical appointments, and distributes her grandmother’s medication.

Rosanelly encourages her grandmother’s sense of confidence by asking her to complete tasks independently (with supervision). Together, the two listen to music, and Rosanelly marvels at how much of the lyrics her grandmother is able to remember from her favorite songs. Rosanelly stresses the importance of caregiving with kindness and understanding: “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

Are you a family caregiver? Share your story! We want to recognize your dedication and love by nominating you as our caregiver of the month
