From the desk of Fr. Joe Sharbel
Dear Parishioners of Holy Spirit,
This past week I was on retreat in Florida (I know) with a group of other priests. We were able to tell our stories in a free and safe environment. We did not have to put on airs; hide the blemishes; or embellish the truth. All we had to do was be free to tell the story of who we are as God made us. And it felt good! In St. Luke’s Gospel this weekend, he begins his story of Jesus by telling us that "many others have taken up to write a narrative of the events that have been fulfilled among us." Then he proceeds to tell us his version of the life of Jesus, with Luke's emphasis on the poor, women and the Gentiles. Have you considered writing your story? If you were to put on paper your life journey, what would it look like? You might be surprised. I offer you these thoughts as the busyness of everyday life surrounds us; football permeates our pores and the thought of having time to write my story seems as far away as the moon. I know from experience that taking the time to go away; be refreshed and healed of the burdens of life can do wonders for our souls.
Thank you for praying me back home.
Fr. Joe Sharbel, Pastor
