Principal's Message

Thank you to everyone who has sent in copies of their student's Covid-19 vaccination record/card. We are recording the dates with their regular immunizations on their health record, and this information has been helpful when questions about quarantining for exposure have come up. (To be clear, it is not required that you get your child vaccinated against Covid-19; that remains a family's choice.)

The CDC has updated their recommendations for quarantining after exposure and how the vaccinated are affected. Recommendations for boosters may be found by clicking here.

To avoid quarantine for exposure, it will be required for the student to have received a booster shot when they are five months past their second dose of the Pfizer vaccination.

Many of you are working on getting booster shots; we encourage you to schedule these appointments now as many students who were vaccinated in the spring are already five months past.

With case numbers currently so high, and many students quarantined, a few concerns regarding remote learning have developed. Here are some helpful tips to follow to ensure a positive experience for students and staff:

  • Stephanie Woodall is the school’s coordinator for remote learning. If it is determined your child needs to quarantine, she will work closely with you to prepare your child to participate in remote learning. All requests for remote learning must come through the school office.
  • Once it is established that your child will participate in remote learning, we fully expect him/her to be present for each of his/her classes. He/she should log into Teams at the beginning of every class. If your child is quarantined and unable to use Teams for health reasons, contact the office as if your child is absent and we will not expect him/her to be present. You can also notify the teachers.
  • If your child is having difficulty with technical matters, please contact the school office and we will notify our technology coordinator, Mark Rinaudo, to assist you.
  • Teachers will communicate any changes in schedules/times via email to the students and parents affected.
  • We would like this to be easy for everyone. We do not want to bother ill children by calling them on Teams if they cannot be in class. We also do not want to spend class time trying to contact students who never respond.

Thank you for all you are doing to support our school through this pandemic!

God bless,

Corey

Registration For 2022-2023 Is Now Open

It's time to start thinking about registering for the 2022-2023 school year! Registration for current families and parishioners is now open. You should've received an email for each of you currently enrolled children on January 12th. This link will guide you to your PlusPortals login and allows you to complete registration for your currently enrolled students. If you do not have an active PlusPortals account, please email Stephanie Woodall to have your account activated.

Registration is also now open for any student who is a sibling of current GA students or a GA parishioner. Families of those students (not currently enrolled at GA) will utilize the link posted on the homepage of our school website.

On the Friday following the completion of your registration form, you will receive an email from [email protected] regarding your registration fee. Please note, registrations are not complete until all fees are submitted to the business office.

Our Open House Is On January 30th, Prospective Families Only

An Open House for K-8 will be held Sunday, January 30th from 1:00-3:00pm. This Open House is specifically for anyone considering enrolling their child(ren) in kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2022-2023 school year. This event is a great opportunity to talk with teachers in their classrooms, and get a feel for the community you will find here. Please RSVP through the link below.

A flyer is attached if you would like to share it with anyone who is interested in learning more about Guardian Angels School. Please help us spread the word! If you know someone who is interested in the preschool program but missed that Open House, encourage them to schedule a personal tour.

Pre-registration is not mandatory for this event. However, guests do register at the door so this will speed up the process once you arrive at our Open House.

With the current COVID numbers, we have decided to limit Open House to only prospective families this year. This allows us to have fewer people in the building at this time. We ask that current families do not attend this event, as they have in the past. Thank you for your understanding.

Fathers Team Meeting This Friday

Join the GA Fathers Team this Friday, January 21st, at 6:05am to discuss this week’s topic, “Asking the Holy Spirit to direct our daily lives." Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to his disciples. We too have received the Holy Spirit, through the Sacrament of Confirmation as members of His Church. Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety and Fear of God are the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Do we question whether these gifts are real and present? How can we increase our awareness of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives? Join us for this discussion in person in the Undercroft (Conference Room B), or by Zoom, this Friday at 6:05 am. Contact us at [email protected] for the zoom information, or to get on the GA Fathers Team email distribution.

Donations of juice boxes and prepackaged snacks are also needed. complete schedule for the school year is attached

Christian Service Program - Faith in Action

The purpose of the Christian Service Program is to enhance the religion curriculum at Guardian Angels Church. It is the duty of all Christians to reach out in service to those around them. Christ asks us to be His hands and feet on earth, keeping His mission of reaching out to those in need alive. The students will complete their service within the following settings: at home, the parish community/school and the community at-large. This outreach may be completed individually, with a partner, or in a group.

This program will focus more on the meaning of the actual service opportunities rather than completing a prescribed amount of time. You will choose activities for each component—service to your family, service to your school/parish and service to the poor and vulnerable in our community. There is no minimum requirement of hours to complete. Grades 1-3 are required to complete at least 2 activities for each component; grades 4-8 at least 3 for each. You are certainly encouraged to complete more! See your Religion teacher, Mrs. Froehlich, or the parish website for a list of suggested activities and the log sheet.

Questions? Contact Kay Froehlich, Director of Religious Education, for more information.

SYNOD On Synodality: Pope Want To Hear From You

As you may know, the Holy See has initiated Synod 2021-2023, a two-year process of “reflection and sharing of the whole Church” in discerning the will of God on how to best accomplish the mission of the Church. The Holy Father is asking for as many of the baptized as possible to participate in archdiocese-wide meetings taking place in January and February, 2022, to discuss how we can collectively better advance the message of salvation. The St. Francis De Sales Deanery Synod meeting will be held February 10, 2022 at 7:00pm at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in the Bartlett Center. If that date and time do not work, feel free to sign up at another Synod location. To learn more and sign up, please visit catholicaoc.org/synod for more information and other meeting times.
