SPECIAL NEWS AND INFORMATION
WELCOME OUR NEW PASTOR - BRANDON DAVIS | During our Called Congregational Meeting last Sunday, members heard the report of the PNC and read the biographical information on our pastoral candidate, Brandon Davis. We are delighted to report that he was approved by the congregation and will lead worship beginning on this week. His ordination and installation is being planned and we will announce the date soon.
SPECIAL THANKS
Dear Friends,
Thank you for the lovely send-off into retirement that you gave me on my last Sunday with you. The flowers were exquisite – thank you, elders! -and the reception following worship was so thoughtful (and delicious).
Again, I just want to say how much I enjoyed our almost-two years together, getting to know each of you, worshipping together, and stretching ourselves as we learned all the amazing things our technology can do for us and for God’s kingdom. Your faith and hope were inspirational to me, and I am grateful to be exposed to the ways our faith speaks to our relationship with creation. And yes, I am still composting!
I am excited for you as you head out into a new day at WAPC. Blessings on your journey with your new pastor and a God who is always faithful.
In the peace of Christ,
Sharon

ANNUAL LABOR DAY PROJECT FOR EXPECTANT MOTHERS | WAPC's non-traditional way of celebrating Labor Day is becoming a tradition! Once again Frontier Health would like for us to contribute diapers and baby wipes for its Mother-Chile Nurturing Parent Program, which helps high-risk pregnant mothers become successful nurturing parents. Frontier Health recently donated some of its diaper supply for flood victims in Eastern Kentucky, and so its supply is currently low, and all sizes of diapers are needed. If you'd like to add small gifts like pacifiers or rattles, they would be welcome, too. DEADLINE IS LABOR DAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH. There is a large container in the side entryway for your donations. Thank you!
Just a friendly reminder and plenty of notice that there will be at PW 5th Tuesday Work Day coming up on August 30th. It will be time to make more Hygiene bags. So bring your items to fill those bags, including: shampoo, combs, small tissues, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush (and cover), face cloth, deodorant, bar of soap. Also remember to bring in those magazines, notepads, greeting cards, and calendars.
Also remember that is the same week that PW Circle restarts for the fall on Thursday, September 1st. Please contact Linda Brashear, no later than August 15th, if you will be needing a study book. New members are always welcome so let Linda know if you want to join with them.

We would still like suggestions for Lunch Bunch in September and later, If you have a restaurant we should put on the list for those dates. There is good news: The Black Olive has just opened a Johnson City location at the former locations of Sabore's at 202 East Main. We will add them to our list Sunday, September 4th.

NOTEWORTHY GREEN SPACE NEWS |
Bristol Bay, an area off the coast of southwest Alaska, has one of the country's most spectacular remaining ecosystems. It provides vital habitat for hundreds of different kinds of fish including all five salmon species, dozens of marine mammal species including threatened northern sea otters, walruses, several species of imperiled whales, and one of the world's largest seabird colonies. After the bay was stripped of its environmental protections in 2019, Defenders of Wildlife and eleven other organizations filed a lawsuit to protect the area from a proposed open-pit mining site that that would have contaminated the region's waters and caused harm to local communities.
In announcing the reversal, Environmental Protection Agency administrator Michael Regan stated the agency's recommitment to science-based decisions that protect the natural environment. "Bristol Bay is home to the world's largest remaining wild salmon runs and is too valuable to be put at risk," says Patrick Lavin, the Defenders' policy advisor. (GSN#113)

VIRTUAL CREATION ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK |
ZHANGJIAJIE NATIONAL FOREST PARK, HUMAN, CHINA
MIKI SIVAN (SEPTEMBER 2020 | 5:46 MIN.)
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (Wulingyuan) is one of the most stunning and unique nature views in the world. Enormously tall pillars (more than 200m) spreading over a huge area. This can’t be seen anywhere else. They are amazing as viewed from vista points. Includes the scenic areas of Lao Wu Chang, Yuanjiajie, and Tiauzi Shan.
Zhangjiajie inspired the "floating mountains” of Avatar the movie. It is one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Dream of the Earth
By Thomas Berry
(215/BER)
This landmark work, first published by Sierra Club Books in 1988, has established itself as a foundational volume in the ecological canon. In it, noted cultural historian Thomas Berry provides nothing less than a new intellectual-ethical framework for the human community by positing planetary well-being as the measure of all human activity.
Drawing on the wisdom of Western philosophy, Asian thought, and Native American traditions, as well as contemporary physics and evolutionary biology, Berry offers a new perspective that recasts our understanding of science, technology, politics, religion, ecology, and education.
He shows us why it is important for us to respond to the Earth’s need for planetary renewal, and what we must do to break free of the “technological trance” that drives a misguided dream of progress. Only then, he suggests, can we foster mutually enhancing human-Earth relationships that can heal our traumatized global biosystem.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
