Project Update - Highway 79 and I-70 Interchange and Ramp Improvements

The Town of Bennett is currently working with CDOT on the I-70 and State-Highway 79 Off-Ramp project. The Board of Trustees authorized a contract with Morton Electric, Inc. for the construction improvements on March 23, 2023. This project includes the repair and realignment of the I-70 Eastbound off-ramp, ramp improvements and installation of traffic signals.

Now that the contract has been authorized, work on this project will be eligible to begin once the Town receives final approvals from CDOT.

Funding for this project comes partially from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and subregional funding.

Emergency Siren Testing

Bennett will be conducting an audible test for the emergency outdoor waring siren on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at noon.

Residents are advised not to call 911 during this testing time.

As a reminder, the Town of Bennett also uses CodeRED to keep the community informed when there are local emergency situations like weather advisories, road closures or emergency water shut offs, but it can also be used for general event reminders.

CodeRED notifies residents through phone calls, emails and text messages. All residents living within the Town of Bennett limits are encouraged to enroll here using their phone numbers, emails and addresses. No one should assume they are automatically registered in the contact database and residents are encouraged to create an account so they can personalize their notification settings.

Residents can also sign up for alerts by texting ‘BENNETTALERTS” to 99411.

Homeowner Building Permit Reminders

Are you thinking about doing some home improvements? There are some projects that require homeowners to obtain a permit.

Watch the video here for examples of projects you may or may not need a permit for.

Obtaining a building permit is important because safety is the number one priority. Our building inspectors are trained to ensure your home project is done safely and meets code minimums. Not obtaining a permit could also impact a home sale at a later date and could even affect the value of your home.

If you own the home and do not have intention of renting or selling the property, you can do the work yourself. If you prefer to hire a contractor, the Town of Bennett does require Contractor Licensing. We do make sure that contractors holding licenses are insured and have the knowledge/experience to complete the job correctly.

The Town has building handouts on our website that can help guide you through many common homeowner projects. Many projects are also eligible for the Town’s Residential Vibrancy Initiative, a grant to help residents fund exterior home improvement projects.

More information and a full list of projects that require a permit can be found here. If you have more questions, contact the building department by calling 303-644-3249 or emailing [email protected].

Arapahoe County Water Supply Study

The Arapahoe County Public Works and Development Department are conducting a Water Supply Study. This study will help the County plan for its current and future water needs for everyone who lives and works here.

Arapahoe County will assess water supplies and the water demands of the county’s population up to the year 2050 and how it can use water more efficiently in the years ahead. The Study will also examine changing conditions, such as climate and population growth, and how they affect water demand and supply.

The County will capture the needs and concerns of its residents. In the coming months, County project staff and its consultant team will hold public meetings and conduct online surveys to gather input from community members. They are encouraging Arapahoe County residents to participate and share feedback.

This will help Arapahoe County identify ways to promote reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective water supplies.

For more information about the study and how you can be involved, visit the project website: Arapahoegov.com/waterstudy.
