DI and EDI Exam Applications Now Open!

The ACVR is offering the DI and EDI certifying and preliminary examinations twice annually for any eligible candidate. With this change the exam registration deadlines have been modified and the past registration deadline of January 31 is no longer valid. Please take careful note of this information so you do not miss the registration window.

Fall Exam (August 2023)
  • Registration will be available from April 1 – April 30 of the year the exam will be offered.

Spring Exam (February/March 2024)
  • Registration will be available from October 1 to October 30 the year prior (e.g. in 2023 for the 2024 exam).

Please ensure you register for the correct examination.

Registration process:
  • To register for the exam you will need to purchase the correct exam through the ACVR webstore. This process will prompt the completion of registration information so this is no longer a two-step process.
  • You will receive a receipt for your purchase that is your confirmation of registration
  • Council accepts all candidates for the examination. That may take 2-3 weeks following the registration deadline. As soon as you are approved to sit the exam you will receive an e-mail from the examination committee with additional information.

Registration is available until April 30 for the August 2023 exams. Click here to begin your examination registration.
Continuing Education Requirements

ACVR’s Annual Meeting fulfils two types of requirements; one is an ACVR requirement and the other is for state veterinary medical licensure.

ACVR Meeting Requirements
  • Each ACVR Diplomate is required to attend one (1) ACVR every three years. For Diplomates of both ACVR and ECVDI, it is one meeting every four years as the Diplomate must also attend the ECVDI meeting.
  • To meet their meeting attendance requirement, a Diplomate may attend in person and/or use enduring materials (virtually).
  • Should a Diplomate need a meeting waiver, please contact the Executive Director (execdirector@acvr.org).

State Licensure Requirement
  • Diplomates with a license from a State Veterinary Medical Board are required to attend a state-determined number of continuing education hours. Some states limit the amount of CE hours that can be obtained virtually; that means some Diplomates must receive in-person CE, hopefully at the ACVR Annual meeting.
  • To learn more about your state’s specific requirements, check out this resource from DVM360.

VRTOG Seeking Study Ideas and Participation

The VRTOG is looking to put together a multi-institutional study and are looking to all of you for ideas and for participation. We understand this has the possibility to be quite complicated, but it also could be a great study possibility answering some questions we are faced with on the clinic floor.

The deadline to submit feedback is Thursday, April 20. Learn more by clicking the link below.
A Message from the ACVR-RO Program Committee

The ACVR-RO program committee has been hard at work lining up interesting talks for the conference in October. Please consider submitting a research abstract to make the meeting much better! Abstracts are due May 1 and having some interesting clinical or basic research to consider always adds important perspective to the meeting.

After much discussion and several years of feedback from our members over the years, we have been able to move the radiation oncology program to Wednesday and Thursday. This will align better with the diagnostic imaging program as well as the exhibitor availability, and we hope to have some fun social events scheduled. We are setting up another planning competition so please be on the lookout for more information about this.

We hope to both have fun with that and also use it as a platform for some good, interactive discussion. We have confirmed a keynote speaker from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Keith Cengel, to discuss the concepts behind, current knowledge of, and translational research in ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy to achieve the FLASH effect. Lastly, Dr. Siobhan Haney has agreed to share her perspectives on the business side of veterinary radiation oncology and will lead a panel discussion after her talk.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the meeting, please contact
Dr. Kim Selting at seltingk@illinois.edu.
Survey on Artificial Intelligence in Veterinary Medicine

Oren Ofer – a Diagnostic Imaging resident and grad student at OVC – is requesting survey participation in a questionnaire investigating the “Perceived knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding artificial intelligence in veterinary radiology.” The survey should take approximately 6-8 minutes to complete. You can fill it out from anywhere with internet access, including on your smartphone and/or from the comfort of your own home. The deadline to submit answers is April 30, 2023.

Your time and energy are greatly appreciated! Informed consent information will be provided on entering the survey. Participation is voluntary and you can stop participation at any time by exiting the survey. The survey can be accessed by clicking here.

Any further questions about this study can be sent to oofer@uoguelph.ca or rappleby@uoguelph.ca.
