On Saturday, April 2nd, the Third Annual Bear Creek Camp Gala was held. After a two-year hiatus, the return of this magical evening of community building and fundraising was an incredible expression of support for BCC campers.
Over one hundred participants at the Gala and many more who bid in the online silent auction or donated funds raised over $21,000! This is truly something to celebrate as the BCC community continues to honor the commitment that everyone who wants to be a camp should get the opportunity to be at camp regardless of financial need.
One of the many joys of the evening was summer staff participating in the event to share their stories of the life-changing impacts of camp. We heard of how time at camp has led to a call to ordained ministry, the life-saving power of a safe space at camp to call home, and the learning that occurred at camp to allow a summer staff to bring the principles of inclusion of all youth into their future career as an educator.
These stories connected to the foundational history and principles of Bear Creek Camp as showcased by a viewing of the documentary
"The Camp that Should Never Have Been" created by a summer staff member and Ithaca College film student, Kyle Krempasky. Throughout the night, the theme of camp only existing because of the contributions of so many over generations continued to rise to the forefront.
We are so grateful for everyone that helps us continue this grand experiment that is camp by participating in programs, recruiting campers in your congregation, donating funds, praying for our summer staff, and so much more.
