Dear ARC Community,
Our words through the College’s Mission, Vision, and Values, Equity Plan, Programs Paths, and Disproportionate Impact Reports have led us to this moment. Are we as an institution willing to go “all in” and align our structure and resources to meet the needs of our students? In particular, will our work be grounded in equity to support our disproportionately impacted students?
The Areas of Interest Realignment aligns our organizational structure to make sense to our students. Resources will be deployed to our Areas of Interest to better support our students. The design of our Areas of Interest will be with an equity lens, using the recommendations from the HomeBase Resource Panel.
We owe it to our students to follow through on our College’s Mission, Vision, and Values, Equity Plan, Programs Paths, and Disproportionate Impact Reports.
Thank you for your continued engagement in our dialogue regarding our institutional structure. I appreciate that there have been many opinions and feelings expressed about the College’s reorganization. After reviewing the feedback, a few themes have emerged.
First, there have been concerns regarding the placement of Departments under particular Areas of Interest (HomeBases). The placement of Departments under Areas of Interest was guided by the work of the Program Paths Committee of the Academic Senate. In partnership with the Academic Senate, we have developed the Areas of Interest Form. This form will gather specific feedback from faculty regarding concerns identified with the planned Areas of Interest. Feedback will be shared with the Program Paths Committee and the Academic Senate Executive Team and used to improve the alignment of instructional departments in the Areas of Interest by identifying and addressing unintended impacts on students and instruction.
Second, there have been concerns raised regarding the timeline and implementation of HomeBases for counseling and academic units. Our goal is to implement the reorganization by July 1, 2023, understanding that we will first need to meet and confer with LRCFT and complete negotiations on workload impacts related to the decision to reorganize counseling and academic units.
I recognize that some in our ARC community have strong personal feelings about the reorganization. We are all passionate about serving our students and providing them a pathway to their goals. We will continue to gather feedback and work together as we move forward.
The following resources provide additional detail and context for the reorganization:
Moving forward, the College will convene facilitated discussions to gather feedback on Detailed Changes to the Organizational Structure:
-
Tuesday, April 4 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am on Zoom.
-
Thursday, April 6 from 11:00 am - Noon on Zoom.
Sincerely,
Frank
