The Heart of the Ministry
I have been involved in ministry for a lot of years. If I add them up it comes to well over 50 to be exact. Of all those years most of them were active involvement, not just attending, writing my tithe check and then going on my merry way. I am sharing that for no other reason than to say you would think that I would have become a little smarter over the years but evidently, I have not.
I am talking about Burn Out!
All the signs were there, like flashing lights in front of me. Fatigue, depression, anxiety, lack of patience, irritability, critical of others, sensitivity, and the list goes on. I bet right now some of you are glad that you didn’t have to be around me!
So many times, burn out sneaks up on you and I also have found that I have no one to blame but myself.
I ran across these guidelines the other day that I found to be very helpful:

1. Ministry is not speech it is giving.
2. Don’t seek glory from people.
3. Easy to equate ministry with volunteering.
4. Don’t forget the why behind the what.
Number 4 on this list is what snapped me back into reality. It was a subtle reminder that I wasn’t expecting.
