Marijuana Update
Earlier this month, the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol submitted 222,233 signatures to get the legalization of “adult use” of marijuana on the Nov. 2023 ballot. Over the past several weeks, election officials from each county worked to verify petitions and remove any signatures that weren’t valid. Today, Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office announced the coalition is 679 signatures short of the required 124,046 signatures. The group has 10 days to collect and resubmit those additional signatures.
If the coalition gets the required signatures to put the issue on the November ballot, and if the issue is approved by voters, it would allow Ohioans aged 21 and older to buy and possess 2.5 ounces of cannabis and 15 grams of concentrates. Ohioans aged 21 and older also could grow up to six plants individually and no more than 12 in a household with multiple adults.
As always, Working Partners® will stay on top of this issue and is available to help employers interpret and understand how policy changes will impact their business.
