Proper 12
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
From the Bishop
A Message for the Feast of St. James
I write to you today on the Feast of St. James the Great, one of the two sons of Zebedee that first followed Jesus. He and his brother, John, are called the “sons of thunder” by Jesus (Mark 3:17). James is with Jesus throughout the public ministry. In the story, he is on the mount at the Transfiguration and in the garden at Gethsemane. He and his brother were the forceful ones in the group (see Luke 9:49-54, and Mark 10:37). According to Acts 12:1-3, James was the first of the Twelve Disciples to suffer martyrdom when he was killed on the orders of Herod Agrippa I (in about 44 CE).

Such stories remind me that I live my faith in a very safe way. My decisions to share my story and tell others about Jesus Christ have never come with the threat of violence. I am usually inhibited from sharing by my own reserve and not wanting to be perceived as too pushy. I admit this was even true when I was planting a new congregation in Indiana. READ MORE

The Rev. Amy Crowe's Journey with Long-Haul COVID

Hawai'i at the Episcopal Church's "It's All About Love" Festival!
Hawai'i was well represented at The Episcopal Church's "It's All About Love: A Festival for the Jesus Movement," held in Baltimore, Maryland, July 9-12, 2023. Hundreds turned out for the 3-day event that featured over 90 different presentations, workshops and plenaries, centered around the themes of evangelism, racial reconciliation and creation care. Pictured here is Canon Sandy Graham showing off the fancy swag giveaways shared with the "It's All About Love" logo in Hawaiian. To view some of the Festival videos, including Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's worship sermon, click HERE.

The Rev. Diane Martinson from St. Peter's shared the following: One of the inspiring comments I heard occurred at a gathering to meet members of the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church. One of the members, the Rev. Charles Graves, a young man who grew up shaped by the church, stated, “I’ve seen the doom and gloom statistics. That’s why I’m here! I am profoundly optimistic. We in the church are in the best position we have ever been in to be the lighthouse.” He pointed out that when a realization exists that the systems of the past no longer work, that is the best time to be the church, to lean forward. Although the future is scary because it’s new, the future is God’s and we are called to trust. The gospel calls us not to be fearful of that which we are losing but to trust in the resurrection and what God is revealing to us.

Once virulent in email scams, criminals are using text messaging more and more. Be aware and ALWAYS check with your church or priest when receiving communication of this sort.
