Heritage Conservancy Permanently Preserves Nearly 75 Acres of Land

Heritage Conservancy's two recently preserved properties.

Heritage Conservancy is pleased to announce that we've partnered with Warrington Township to ensure the permanent preservation of nearly 75 acres on two township-owned properties!

Warrington Township granted a conservation easement to Heritage Conservancy on a 21-acre open space property (left) located between Grove Valley Court and County Line Road. The mostly wooded property features wildlife habitat and scenic views, which contribute to the rural character of the surrounding area.

An additional 52.77 acres located between Street and Pickertown Roads (right) was also permanently protected by a Heritage Conservancy-held conservation easement. The property consists of agricultural areas as well as habitat for wildlife, open space, and rural scenic views.

Purple Martin Nestlings Event

Attendees got a close-up look at the Purple Martin nestlings.

On a beautiful summer evening in late June, Heritage Conservancy’s Chairman Emeritus, Honorable Hart Rufe, his wife Jewel, and Hart’s grandson Jonathan graciously hosted a small group of Heritage Conservancy Members for a unique and memorable opportunity to experience Purple Martin nestlings — a migratory bird known for being the largest swallow in North America.

Hart and Jonathan have been monitoring the Martins for 10+ years. Jonathan shared the history of the nest structures with the guests and then invited guests to view the Martins in their various stages of development, and were even able to hold some in their hands.

It was a night unlike any other for the attendees, and a wonderful way to enjoy wildlife on a Heritage Conservancy-preserved property.

Garden Party 2023

Heritage Conservancy supporters enjoyed our annual Garden Party event.

Held on June 8th of this year, our annual Garden Party is our opportunity to share our appreciation with our community of supporters. Thank you to all who joined us to celebrate our shared preservation successes!

This year’s program included a special recognition of Heritage Conservancy’s Legacy Society who joined us for a special pre-event gathering and champagne toast. Linda and Phil Cacossa spoke about their inclusion of Heritage Conservancy in their estate plans, and how they foresee it fulfilling their personal philanthropic goals and having an impact on the future of preservation. Keystone Elementary's Pollinator Garden

Each Keystone Elementary teacher from K-5th grade selected 2 students in their class to participate in this special project.

Alongside Heritage Conservancy's Community Engagement team, students from Keystone Elementary continued their pollinator garden planting project.

The pollinator garden will provide food and shelter for bees and butterflies throughout the year and offer the students and staff a view of the garden from the library window. About 100 plants were planted from 12 different species, and a student from every class (around 40 students total) came out to help with the planting. They will use our native plant guide and Nature Backpacks to help maintain the plants while exploring the garden for insects.

The garden will also offer a space for mindfulness activities outdoors where teachers can use our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and Nature Guide in their teachings.

"There are a variety of barriers that limit safe access to nature, and bringing a garden or outdoor learning space to the school grounds is a great way to ensure students and teachers can learn outdoors regularly throughout the school day" says our Community Engagement Programs Manager, Shannon Fredebaugh-Siller. "This enhances hands-on learning opportunities for students, improving their mental, emotional, physical, and educational well-being. The garden is looking great so far this summer and will be in excellent shape by the fall when students return for the school year!"

Heritage Conservancy Presents Property Owners With Historic Register Plaques

Our recent Historic Register plaque presentations for the Anchor House (top) and the Renninger Apartment Building (bottom).

The Anchor House in New Hope Borough (top) was recently restored and listed on our Register of Historic Places. Built in 1887, it contains the original 17-light diamond pane windows and original porch moldings. The current owners meticulously restored the original clapboard siding and wood trim, and incorporated compatible materials on the rear addition, including stone quarried from the same site used when the house was built.

The Renninger Apartment Building (bottom) is a recent addition to our Register of Historic Places. In 1924, Josiah Smith Renninger built this apartment building in Pennsburg Borough as an anniversary present for his wife. The current owner has retained the exterior fabric of the building, including brickwork patterns, wood trim, frosted window glass, and interior features such as the doors, Hoosier cabinets with slate tops, original hardware, and porcelain sinks in the kitchens.
