WEEKLY BULLETIN - March 3, 2022
From the Desk of Mike Fuerte
Dear Families,

Last year, we talked about “Precepts of the Catholic Church”, which are a description of the absolute minimum actions required of Catholics regarding practicing their faith. You can find them here. We also talked about the “Precepts of St. Louise” which are the minimum requirements of our students in all grades, pre-kindergarten through eight. Due to a desire for advancing school spirit and strengthening one’s virtues, students should typically try to do far more than what the precepts minimally require.

The precepts we instill with our St. Louise community are:

1. You shall make prayer a part of your day.
2. You shall care about others as shown by using kind words, apologizing when needed, and greeting adults.
3. You shall walk quietly, keep to the right-side, and line up orderly.
4. You shall keep your desk, locker, and classroom clean and tidy.
5. You shall dress with decorum and follow uniform policies, committing yourself to neatness and school unity.

The precepts are such an integral part of each child/student at St. Louise, and we are fortunate to have great students that are able to display the above Precepts.

Along with the precepts of St. Louise, I would like to point out a section in the Parent Handbook that were added at the beginning of the school year called Community Expectations. You may find them on page 21-22 HERE

The St. Louise School community is made up of school faculty and families who are committed to work in partnership to live out the parent/student/teacher relationship so as to build a respectful, loving educational and faith community. The parent/student/teacher relationship helps us all remember that through good times and tough times we have a commitment to each other to walk a journey of faith, trust, respect, and hope, guided by the Lord. The following are the expectations each member in this partnership agrees to uphold.

Each week, I will be highlighting an expectation of students from the community expectations section and sharing them with the students and staff during Monday announcements. I'll also share this special expectation in the parent bulletin on Thursdays. Please look over the Community Expectations and the expectations of students and parents and discuss these expectations with your children and family. I will be going over the teacher expectations at the next faculty meeting. My goal is that, as a St. Louise community, we follow the precepts of the Catholic Church, precepts of St. Louise, and community expectations. That is why we have wonderful students, staff, faculty, and parents at St. Louise School.

New Cameras in the 6th,7th, and 8th Grade Locker Bays

For added security in our school, we have installed cameras in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade locker bays. The school staff and 6th-8th grade students have been informed about the new cameras.

School of Toy Presentation
Thanks to a generous Enrichment Grant funded by the St. Louise Parents' Club, our 2nd and 3rd grade classes were able to attend a fun workshop last week presented by School of Toy.

School of Toy brings joyful hands-on learning to children through the workshops of educational toymaker Rick Hartman. For nearly 30 years his hands-on workshops and Giant Toy Shows are legendary at schools around the Pacific Northwest, and his patented products have sold around the world.

The 3rd grade classes enjoyed a workshop focused on Physics of Sound and the 2nd grade classes learned about Pioneer America.

Thanks again to the Parents' Club for funding these AWESOME Enrichment opportunities for our students and THANK YOU to Mrs. Berlin for setting up this workshop!

The Pastor's Message
Dear Friends at St. Louise,

Here we are, the first weekend of Lent! As I write this column, the world is watching anxiously as we enter the second full day of war in Ukraine. Most of you are aware that Pope Francis called for a day of fasting and prayer for peace on Ash Wednesday, which might be a good practice to continue to observe in the Lenten season this year. I saw the below prayer for Ukraine on Facebook (from which I am now fasting, to give more time to prayer). If you have not yet seen it, and are looking for a good prayer to pray, here is one that you and/or your family might pray together before a meal or at the end of the day:

God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
That your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
For wisdom, discernment and compassion
To guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children at risk and in fear,
That you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen

By Archbishop Justin Welby (Archbishop of Canterbury) and Archbishop Stephen Cottrell (Archbishop of York and Primate of England)

May this Lenten Season purify our hearts from all hatred and violence, and may our prayer, fasting and almsgiving be powerful instruments of peace.

Fr. Gary Zender

Two weeks from this weekend Fr. Gary and Fr. Tom Belleque, the former pastor of St. Louise and current pastor of St. Anthony Renton, will have a pulpit exchange at all our Masses in English to promote our new commitment to journey together with Ste. Anne de Hyacynthe Parish and School in Haiti.
