Meet our newest Brother Fellowcrafts

On Wednesday, April 5, at our regular communication, Brothers Charles Kithcart and Peter Ludwig passed their EA proficiency and then were passed to the degree of Fellowcraft.

Brother Charles received the EA Degree on March 1st, Peter having received his on January 4th.

In the photo at left, Brother Peter is joined by his brother, Junior Deacon Ben Ludwig, and his father, Trustee Bob Ludwig.

In the photo below, those present at the degree conferral, including the R.W. Deputy Grand Master Randall L. Watson (second from the left), gathered for a group photo. WM Rick Jones (center) is flanked by our two new Fellowcrafts.

At the end of the meeting, Brother PM Doug Ports presented PM Joe Frank with a long-awaited gift in honor of his term last year as Worshipful Master of Corinthian Lodge: an amazing handmade, specially hardened and acid-etched, layered-steel hunting knife.

PM Joe has it sheathed in his left hand in the photo.

Meet Charles Huber, our newest Entered Apprentice

On April 26, the Corinthian Lodge regularly initiated Brother Charles Edward Huber, Jr. (at left) as Entered Apprentice. Charles has been a good friend of WM Rick Jones for years.

Charles grew up not far from the Inner Harbor, attending Southern High, where he was active in sports, particularly soccer.

At the dinner before his initiation, Charles and your editor watched on his phone as his son went 3 for 4 in his high school baseball game. An interesting note is that Charles for years enjoyed being an usher at Oriole games. He does kind of look familiar, eh?

We all gathered for a photo at the end of the meeting.

We helped lay an egg or two at the West Towson Easter Egg Hunt

Three Corinthian Brothers helped fill and hide Easter eggs at the West Towson Park. One brother got stuffed into an Easter bunny suit and the fun was on!

Pictured above are JW Jason Smith,

Brother Bunny, and WM Rick Jones.

It was supposed to start Saturday, April 1st, at 9 AM, but the rainy weather forced a 1 PM start. And that starting time, predicted by the West Towson Neighborhood Association, tuned out to be picture perfect. The weather almost instantly turned sunny and warm for the rest of the day.

There were lots of eggs for the kids to find. In addition, there were snacks provided by our lodge, special prizes and pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Right at 1:00, they gave the "Go!" command. The kids and their parents swarmed past the Easter Bunny and were off to find the candy-filled eggs.

It was fun greeting and high-fiving the little folk, and having their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.

PM Joe Creamer, who organized the lodge's part of the event, that same day received a thank you email from the Neighborhood Association, saying the event was "a great success." We agreed—and it was fun, too.

*Editor's notei– The nice thing about being senile is you can hide vyour own Easter eggs.

Corinthian Brothers' table at Tall Cedars Gun Bingo event was "on fire!"

On April 14, the Tall Cedars held their Gun Bingo event at their hall on Putty Hill Avenue. The main prizes were various model guns, and the folks sitting at PM Joe Frank's table won four of them!

Corinthian Brothers Howard Denney, PM Frank, Richie Jones and a friend of PM Frank's sitting at his table, Patti, all won guns. Amazing!

If that wasn't enough, sitting at the same table, Brother Eric Fotis won not one, but two of the 50/50 raffles.

PM Frank commented, "We had a blast! Our table was on fire!"

On Saturday, April 15, four from Corinthian Lodge, Brothers PM Joe Frank, Richie Jones, John Markel and Jason Smith, received the 32° from the Baltimore Valley of the Scottish Rite, as part of a class of 30 brothers from across the Orient of Maryland.

Their final time together as a class was the next day, Sunday, where they celebrated their accomplishment with a ring ceremony and a meal with wives, family and friends.

Above, Corinthian Brothers and male family attending the Ring Ceremony were (L to R) PM Richard H. Jones, Sr., WM Rick Jones, Jr., Richard H. (R.J.) Jones IV, PM Norman Henthorn, PM Joe Frank, Jason Smith, Richie Jones III, and John Markel.

We still need a few brothers to walk with us in the Towson 4th of July parade

Always a grand time, we'll meet around 9 AM and should be home by 12 Noon.

The parade route thru Towson is 1.4 miles, and the pace is very slow. (If you park at the Temple, it's probably just under 2 miles.)

Dress will be blue polo shirts (the Corinthian one, if you have it), khaki pants (no shorts! as dispensation from the current GL does not allow), walking shoes, jewels and aprons.

Your duty there, Brother Corinthian: Just smile and wave. Easy.

If you can join us, click the blue button below and you're in!

We'd like to highlight this Corinthian Brother

Editor's Note: This is a new series, a brainchild of Chaplain Gary Norman, PM. Each month we'll highlight one of our fine Brothers, interviewed by PM Norman.

This month... Brother Les Hodgson

Our Secretary, Leslie G. Hodgson, PM

A remarkable Secretary and Brother...

As a past Worshipful Master, I personally know that a lodge secretary is, without question, a sine qua non (meaning "absolutely essential," for those of us not attorneys), as is our own Secretary, PM Les Hodgson.

He, and his father, PM Roy Hodgson, have been integral to the sustainability of Corinthian Lodge.

His father, and his grandfather, Al Ross, Sr., were primary influences on him becoming a brother of Corinthian Lodge. His father was Senior Warden when PM Les was initiated, and while in that office, PM Roy sat in the East to confer all three degrees on his son.

His service at Corinthian Lodge has been remarkable. PM Les served as Worshipful Master on five different occasions, starting with his original term of office in 2002, and ending with his most recent term of office in 2016.

In 2017, he served as the Assistant Grand Tyler for the Grand Lodge of Maryland.

When we inquired as to those brothers who have been mentors, PM Les immediately mentioned PMs Harry Rollins and John Reiter who helped him exemplify with the three degree lectures.

He highlighted others who meant much to him as a young Mason and then as an officer: PMs William T. "Uncle Bill" Prince, William Darryl Nelson, and Al Edens.

PM Les is proud to wear the Masonic ring given to him by his step-grandfather, George Stevens, a brother of Mt. Moriah Lodge No. 116.

During our interview, he told us that Corinthian Lodge has the distinction of being the lodge which held the last meeting of a Maryland Blue Lodge in the old Grand Lodge building on North Charles Street.

As we concluded our interview, PM Hodgson commented, "My dad is a great man and I am always proud to be his son—inside and outside of the lodge.”

On behalf of all of the brothers at Corinthian, we are proud that PM Les Hodgson is our secretary, committing to his charge that we remain "Corinthian strong" inside and outside of the lodge!
