Mavs Run Together!
Hello Mavericks!
Our 1st Annual MSIS Color Run was a huge hit! It was so great to see students, families, and staff members in another setting just having fun. We look forward to having this event again next year! Thank you Mrs. Wiechman, STUCO, staff, and sponsors for making this event so special for our families!

The past couple of weeks our students have been working hard on state assessments in Math, ELA, and Science. We will start our Aimsweb+ ELA and Math benchmark assessments in a couple of weeks. I am so proud of our students and all of their hard work! We are excited to celebrate their progress!

We are looking forward to our incoming 4th grade Mavericks joining us on May 3rd from 6:30-7:30 for our Open House event. We are excited to have them tour our hallways and see what makes MSIS so special!

Thank you for your feedback on our Mavs Grow Together Survey! We appreciate your kind words and feedback to help us continue to grow and celebrate our first year together. We know that together we can make MSIS ‘THE BEST’ place for our students!

Covid Protocol and Testing:
The daily rapid testing clinic is now back open!! This free resource is for staff, students and parents of anyone attending USD #266!! You can check our district website for updated information regarding our Daily Rapid Testing Clinic hours, locations and Close Contact Protocols. If you plan to go to the testing clinic, please take the consent form and have it filled out prior to arriving.

Covid Vaccine Notification:
Please continue to upload a COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card in Skyward if your student has received both doses. You can always email this to me too!! A child is fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving their second dose!

Medications:
If your child needs to take any medication at school, a consent form must be filled out every school year before any medication is administered at school. You can find this form on the USD266 website by clicking here and clicking Authorization for Medication. If this medication is prescribed by a physician, I need their signature as well in order to administer.

Nurse Hannah is currently out on maternity leave, please feel free to contact Janelle McKenna or Anthea Richards by stopping by the office or calling if you have any questions or concerns about your student!

Battle of the Books:  The Bookworms will be celebrating their win with a lunch out before competing against Maize Intermediate’s winning team on May 2. All students who competed in Battle of the Books will take a field trip to Braums soon to celebrate.

Books: As we near the end of the year, we are encouraging all students to make sure their books are current (turned in or renewed; no overdues). All books are due during their library class the week of May 9-12. Students who have turned their books in by this date will receive a reward. Emails will continue to go out to remind families if students have a book that is overdue. Any books not returned by the end of the year will be deemed lost. The replacement cost of the book will be charged to the child’s Skyward account. Thanks for helping us get all of our materials back so we can start next year with a fully stocked library!

Counselors Corner
This month’s counseling lesson is over self-compassion. We have talked this year about treating others with kindness and showing empathy for others. This month we talked about showing the same compassion or kindness for ourselves. For example, if you study for a test all week and then end up getting a bad grade how do you treat yourself? Self-Compassion helps us to acknowledge that we are not perfect and even when things don’t go as planned it does not mean we aren’t making progress and we can still encourage ourselves to keep working hard. The four components of self compassion are self-kindness, self-talk, humanity and gratitude.

Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to us with questions or concerns. Thank you!
