Defensive Driving
On Saturday, April 1st from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the library will be hosting a Defensive Driving Course presented by Peter Khan.

Why should you take this course? You can save 10% on your vehicle liability, collision, and personal injury protection (PIP) insurance premiums for THREE YEARS! You could also reduce up to FOUR POINTS on your driving record.

TO REGISTER: please call Peter Khan at (845) 380-4806 to enroll. You cannot sign up through the library.

$30 due day of class. Please bring pen, paper, and a bag lunch.

Spring Break Crafts for Kids
No school? No problem! Children ages 3 to 12 can sign up to come make some fun spring and Easter themed crafts!

Monday 4/4, Tuesday 4/5 & Thursday 4/7

11:00 am classes are for ages 3 to 6 years.
1:30 pm classes are for ages 6 to 12 years.

Registration is required. Children may attend two classes total.

Basic Garden Design
Anyone can design a garden. Learn a few basic principles that can be applied to most gardens, and that will bring out the creativity in you.

Join local resident and Master Gardener Philomena Kiernan, on Monday, April 3rd at 6:30 pm, as she teaches this class on basic garden design.

Hop Into Spring Lego Day
Come to the library on Friday, April 7th at 1:00 pm OR 2:30 pm, to make a spring themed LEGO creation!

This program is open to children ages 6 to 12.

After the Lego creations are complete, they will be put on display in the Children's Room!

We will have two classes available - you may only register for one.

Movie Night with
PV Climate Smart
Join Pleasant Valley Climate Smart on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6pm for a documentary screening.

On April 11th at 6:00 pm, they will be showing 'Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story'. This 2014 documentary follows filmmakers and food lovers Jenny and Grant who delve into issues of food waste, from farm, to retail to the darkest corners of their own fridge and freezer. They vow to stop buying groceries and live solely off of discarded food.

Afterwards, members of Pleasant Valley Climate Smart's Task Force will lead a brief discussion of the movie, and will also talk about their work to support our community in building a sustainable and balanced climate action programs, one step at a time - and how you may be able to help!

Senior Movie Morning:
"Driving Miss Daisy"
Seniors (ages 50+) are invited to attend our new movie program series!

This month, on April 12th at
11:30 am, we're showing the movie  "Driving Miss Daisy".

Daisy Werthan, an elderly Jewish widow living in Atlanta, is determined to maintain her independence. However, when she crashes her car, her son, Boolie, arranges for her to have a chauffeur, an African-American driver named Hoke Colburn. Daisy and Hoke's relationship gets off to a rocky start, but they gradually form a close friendship over the years, one that transcends racial prejudices and social conventions.

Light refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring your own snack or lunch to enjoy!

Reading Fur-iend Brianna!!
Brianna the Therapy Dog will be at the library to help children that are not comfortable reading out-loud in front of others (or being around dogs) feel more relaxed.

She loves when kids who love animals come to read to her, even if they are already comfortable readers.

No registration required!

Children are welcome to stop by and visit with Brianna any time between 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm.

This month's dates are Wednesdays, April 12th and 26th.
Family Movie Matinee
Join us for our new Saturday Family Matinee program, where we'll feature an after library hours film each month.

This month, on Saturday, April 15th at 2:00 pm, we're showing the movie "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish". Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll when he learns that he has burnt through eight of his nine lives. Puss sets out on an epic journey to find the mythical Last Wish and restore his nine lives.

Rated PG, this movie is suitable for all ages. Light refreshments will be provided.

Feel free to bring your own refreshments as well as blankets or small chairs for sitting.

Kids, Celebrate Earth Day!!
Monday, April 17th thru Saturday, April 22nd.

For children ages 3 - 12......pick up a starter pot and seed packet to plant!!

For children ages 6 - 12.....pick up a "How to Keep Our Earth Happy" fill in poster.

Paint Ur Pet
This event was so popular in February that we're doing it again!!

Sponsored by our Friends of the PV Library group, the Paint Ur Pet event will take place Saturday, April 22nd from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Come and paint a pre-sketched canvas of a beloved pet based on a photo you provide the artist. Or sign up to receive a take-home DIY kit if you can't attend in person!

All supplies and light refreshments will be provided.

Kits are $45 each and include your custom pre-drawn canvas, all paints and supplies, plus advice and tips from instructor Maryanne.

Sign up and pay (cash or check made our to the Friends of the PV Library) in-person at the library before April 17th.
Microplastics are Everywhere - and Dangerous!!
Tuesday, April 18th at 6:00 pm.

Join Meta Plotnik of Pleasant Valley Climate Smart as she presents a video by Philip Landrigan, MD - Director of Boston College's Global Public Health Program - that sounds the alarm about the increase of microplastics and their chemical components in our environment ... and in our bodies.

She'll also discuss ways to reduce our dependency on plastics, and how we can contact our representatives, who have the power to generate change.

Crafterday! Earth Day
Celebrate Spring and Earth Day with us on Saturday, April 22nd at 12:00 pm!

Come in to make an easy and eco-friendly decorative flower pot from a recycled tin can.

Each attendee will also receive a packet of pollinator flower seeds.

All supplies are provided!

Adult Take & Make Craft
Starting on the 1st business day of the month, adults, 18 years old and up, can stop by the library and pick up a take & make craft bag.

In celebration of Earth Day, this
month we are making a
cellophane mason jar to start seeds in. A packet of pollinator seeds is included to get you started.

Each bag contains all the supplies you will need and step by step instructions.

There is a limited supply of craft bags and they are given out on a 1st come 1st served basis. Please, only 1 craft bag per household and these are for adults only. *Colors and patterns may differ from picture*


Impossible Blossoms: Exploring Poetry's Power to Foster Joy & Well-Being
Thursday, April 27th at 7:00 pm.

Danielle Gasparro presents an eye-opening, hybrid presentation on the art of engaging with poems as a means to enrich our connection to the world around us and within us.

Danielle Gasparro is a Brooklyn-based wordsmith, songsmith and teaching artist, who regularly presents poetry talks and workshops in partnership with public library and arts organizations throughout NYC and the Hudson River Valley, as well as as a faculty member of Brooklyn Poets. Her poetry and essays have been published in the Daily Palette, Chronogram, Shift: A Journal of Literary Oddities, The Red Wheelbarrow and elsewhere, and she is currently developing a hybrid memoir that fuses poetry, nonfiction and photography.
Bird Identification Walk at Peach Hill Park
OFF SITE LOCATION

Join Alan Peterson, Co-Education Chair of Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club, for a bird identification field trip at Peach Hill Park in nearby Town of Poughkeepsie on Saturday, April 29th at 9:00 am.

He'll lead a 1-mile trail walk and will identify and give facts about the different species of birds and their habitat in this beautiful public park.

Peach Hill Park is at 32 Edgewood Drive, Poughkeepsie, just opposite the Dutchess Racquet Club, and just north of the Gables.

Attendees will meet at the parking lot on Edgewood Drive, off of Salt Point Tpk.

Please wear comfortable shoes for walking and bring a beverage and also binoculars, if you'd like.

In case of inclement weather, we will reschedule for a later date.
